Designed to be an all-in-one solution for desktop recording where isolation is needed, the RFDT-128 Desktop Reflection Filter and Mic Stand from Auray features high-density acoustic foam and a perforated aluminum screen that absorb and block room noise and reflections that can commonly occur in acoustically untreated rooms. When recording in an untreated acoustic environment, vocals that reflect off of the walls and ceiling can be picked up by the microphone. These reflections can interfere with the sound of the voice and create a distant and "roomy" effect. By absorbing and diffusing these reflections, the RFDT-128 creates a closer and drier sound truer to your voice, making it easier to work with during the mixing process, and is more desirable for broadcasts, podcasts, voiceover, and desktop recording applications.

An aluminum and acoustic-foam base provide additional noise protection by isolating the filter and your microphone against vibrations from your desk or table. The filter sits on a telescoping shaft that can be adjusted from 7 to 12" of height, for flexibility in mic positioning. Not limited to desktop applications, the RFDT-128's shield can be attached to a broadcast arm with the included mounting hardware. Its threaded mount is compatible with 5/8"-27 mic clips and shockmounts.

It's well made. the metal finish on all surfaces are of good quality and look professional. One unique feature is the bottom of the stand is made entirely of foam. Under about a 1/4 metal cover the bottom is a medium density foam that is actually a good choice for padding the stand on a table top and preventing vibrations into the mic etc. It doesn't come with the bird's nest to cradle the mic, but it is a good value in comparison to other models of stands and audio reflectors I have used.

I was looking for a way to have my $ mic close enough to use when I needed it without the tall stand and very big baffle I had installed. I have recently reduced my work space and kept bumping into the mic. I saw this desktop stand with the reflection filter and purchased it on a whim. When I installed my mic and tested it on my desk, the sound was as good, if not better, that the big stand. It is easy to install, simple to pull down from the shelf and hook up to my digital recorder and lay in a voice over. This is a good product for its application. It is probably not the most durable device, but I always treat my stuff with care and respect. This will last me for years.
