Q: 1. What is difference between grey and black 2018 model?

A: I have both the black and grey recorders and I am not aware of any difference between the two other than the color. Side by side they have identical controls and interface. Having used both I'm not aware of any difference in the recording ability of either. I'd say they are equal. I would recommend the Zoom APH-1n Accessory Pack, if only for the case and windscreen. It's a snug fitting case, doesn't increase the bulk of the recorder much and affords you better protection. The other items are useful but the case and windscreen make it worth it. As always, B&H is the way to go!

Q: 2. Does it eat batteries when powered off same way as original H1 does?

A: Nope! Working fine! (Zoom company fix this issue on h1. I have the same problem with the first units, but they fixed that)

A: Short answer is no - at least not yet. Maybe you need a different SD card.

You may contact Zoom customer service (Tel 631.542.5270) for details on a warranty exchange. The new H1N will retain the date and time as well, even when the batteries are removed. Batteries are not depleted when not in use and stored away for days a time.

A: Yes, you can use the Zoom H1n as a USB audio interface to connect a lavalier microphone or any other compatible mic to a computer. A: No. It comes with 2xAAA batteries. You might be able to use rechargeable AAAs instead, but you'll have to charge them on an external charger. You can't use the H1n for that.

A: Yes you can use the stereo microphones on the top to record a interview, however keep in mind both the distance you placing the recorder from the person you interviewing and the fact this are stereo microphones they will pick up everything around you including noise. You will get better audio recording with one microphone per person, for interviews I recommend lavalier microphones.
