Expand your listening horizons with the black A-S501 Integrated Amplifier from Yamaha. Featuring up to 100W per channel of RMS power at 6 ohms, this amp is equipped with digital inputs for connecting devices like televisions and Blu-ray/DVD players. It offers dual stereo outputs, giving you the ability to power two sets of speakers in different rooms and switch between them, or have them both playing at the same time. To increase the bass output of your sound system, there's also a terminal for connecting a subwoofer.

To reduce distortion and degradation and produce the cleanest possible sound, the A-S501 employs Pure Direct Mode. Activated via a button on the front of the unit, this mode causes input signals to bypass unused circuits and cuts off those circuits' power supply. To further ensure quality sound, the amplifier's continuously variable loudness control allows you to balance low and high frequency sounds so you can hear a full tonal range at any volume.

This Yamaha amplifier was built with energy efficiency in mind, and uses a power management system to switch itself to idle mode when not in use. The A-S501's internal circuitry mirrors itself symmetrically to produce higher signal purity and lower degradation. The chassis is reinforced with a solid center bar to reduce vibration and features a brushed aluminum front panel and knobs. The system comes with a remote control for easy operation.

The Pure Direct mode causes the music signals to travel the shortest possible circuit route, bypassing the buffer amp and the tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.

The A-S501 features an analog loudness control on the front panel, which lets you adjust the loudness effect as desired. Separate from the overall volume, this controls the balance of the low- and high-frequency sounds, providing full tonal range at any volume level, compensating for the natural loss in the human ear of high and low frequencies at soft levels.

This amplifier's left and right channels are organized in a straight, symmetrical layout for limiting distortion and increasing signal purity.

The base of the A-S501's chassis is reinforced with a solid center bar to increase rigidity support and vibration damping, which limits resonance.

You can connect two separate speaker systems in different rooms and switch between them or have them both play at the same time by switching the dial on the front of the unit.

You can connect a turntable with an MM phono cartridge to play vinyl records, allowing you to enjoy records in addition to modern media sources.

This amplifier puts itself into standby mode when it detects that it hasn't been used in approximately 8 hours, minimizing power consumption.

Control your music from afar with the included remote, finished to match the design of the amplifier. The remote comes with batteries and can also be used to control a Yamaha CD player.

With the optional YBA-11 Bluetooth Wireless Adapter, you'll be able to stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth capable mobile phone or a PC to the network receiver. This amplifier features a DC-out connection on the rear panel to power the adapter.

The rotary encoder makes it quick and easy to select input sources, and the LEDs clearly show which source is selected so you can easily switch between them, even in a dark room.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Previous answer about 15" speakers inadequate. Would this unit support Pioneer CS-99A speakers?

A: Thank you for supplying the brand and model number of this speaker. DESCRIPTION: Pioneer CS-99A Speakers...1973-1980 Specifications Type: 5 way, 6 driver loudspeaker system Frequency Response: 25Hz to 22kHz Power Handling: 100W Crossover Frequency: 800, 2000, 5000, 1000Hz Impedance: 8Ω Sensitivity: 97dB This integrated Yamaha amplifier will drive these speakers fairly well in a small to medium sized room. But to hear their true potential, I would suggest an amplifier that delivers over 150W per channel RMS at 8 ohms.

Q: 2. I already have two passive tower speakers for left and right channel plus a subwoofer. However, is there a way to add in two additional but powered towered speakers ?

A: Possibly, depending upon their configuration. Please e-mail us: askbh@bandh.com

Q: 3. Can you rack mount this unit?

A: The Yamaha A-5801 does not have rack ears, but can be racked using a shelf, such as the Auray RS-V-1U One-Space Vented Rack Shelf (1 RU), B&H # AURSV1U.

Q: 4. I have a set of 4ohm speakers and a set of 8 ohm speakers I want to listen to at the same time. Do I connect the 4 ohms to the B speaker terminals and the 8 ohm speakers connected to the A side? The info box on page 5 seems to suggest that. And then set the Impedence selector to LOW ?Thanks!Dick

A: You can use whichever speakers you choose, in either the A or B location. Yes. If one pair, either A or B is 4 ohms, you do select Low.

Q: 5. Does the subwoofer output function with both speaker sets?

A: Yes the subwoofer output on the Yamaha A-S301 functions with both speaker sets.

Q: 6. Will this work with 220 volts 50 hz

A: This product is designed to work in a standard power outlet in North America, which is 120V AC 60 Hz only.

Q: 7. Can you add an equalizer? Does it have a tape monitor function?

A: There is a channel on this integrated amplifier with a record out, so you could connect an equilizer into this system. Oherwise you would have to connect the equilizer between one component, such a CD player, and the amplifier.

Q: 8. Is it possible to use an equalizer with this amp

A: Unfortunately all current Receiver / Amplifiers no longer offer the option to connect a separate Equalizer like the older Receivers sold years ago. The same will apply to this Yamaha A-S801.

Q: 9. I am considering buying a Yamaha A-S501 Integrated Amplifier (Silver) from B&H. I have only one question:According to the manual (see page 9 ), in the rear of the equipment there are Audio input/output jacks Used to connect external components, such as a tuner, etc. Are they really audio output jacks? or only input jacks? Can I connect, for instance, a stereo transmitter for headphones?or similar equipments?Carlos

I like the warm sound this amp delivers through 1970s era stereo speakers via a headphone jack hook-up to a mac-mini. Also a subwoofer I can control with the bass knob. I got the usual top-grade professional advice in a question chain via email. I would shop here again and again.

This is an amp with a retro vibe, harkening back to the audio days of old--late 60's-70's. It is solidly built, with plenty of power for most speakers. I was actually surprised how good this amplifier sounds--my last amplifier pushed considerably more watts but didn't sound nearly as good. I love the minimalist design of this amp-perfect for someone who remembers the golden age of stereo. Hats off to Yamaha for having the guts to produce a quality amp reminiscent of classic gear, and to B & H for their unbelievably fast shipping!
