Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you use an XLR Y cable to get a backup signal at lower db? I.e. connect one cable to the mic (supplying phantom power) and the other two cables to Input #1 and #2. Set Input #1 at say 20db and Input #2 at 10db, thus giving you a backup second signal 10db lower. Clearly I don't want to blow my unit.

A: We would not recommend this set up due to two reasons. 1) Since phantom power may not travel properly through a y cable, you would have to power the mic before the splitter , utilizing a separate phantom power supply. 2) By splitting a mic level signal with a y cable, the level going to each input will already be reduced. Any further reduction in level could further noise into the signal. If you want a backup recording, we would suggest using a separate audio recorder such as the Tascam DR40x which would offer a separate safety track recording.

Q: 2. There is some product photos showing two switches on the back of the unit (Digital/Analog) and (Input Select). Can all 3 channels be selected for output to my camera?

A: The Digital/ Analog switch must be set based on whether the attached camera can accept a digital audio source or not. If the camera can accept a Digital Audio connection, then set the switch to Digital. If not, then set the switch to Analog. In terms of audio input selection, if your camera can accept 4 channels of audio, you can switch input select to IN1-IN2 and all input channels will be sent to the camera. If your camera can only accept 2 channels of audio, then you can use inputs 1 and 2, or input 3.

Q: 3. Two questions: Will this Adapter (for sure) work with the Sony a6400 and allow 2 microphones to be recorded on 2 separate tracks internally?

A: Yes, this mic adapter will work with the a6400. Please note, the digital/ analog switch must be set to ANALOG in order to work. As well, to record two separate audio channels, the input selection switch must be set to IN1-IN2.

Q: 4. The USB-C it's a bit short for my setup. Can i use any other USB-C to USB-C cable?

A: A regular USB-C cable cannot be used with the RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0" LCD Monitor (Direct Mount). It must be the proprietary Red cable. This is a 39 inch version that can be used. https://bhpho.to/3lYCa8V

Q: 5. Is this compatible with the Sony a7sii?

A: Yes, the XLR-K3M is compatible for use with the a7s II.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with other brands of mirrorless cameras? Probably not, but would be nice if it played well with Nikon z6ii or Canon R5/R6?

A: No. this SONY adapter is only compatible with SONY cameras that feature the proprietary SONY Multi Interface shoe and are listed as compatible with the SONY MI shoe. Compatibility: Digital Audio: Sony Cameras Equipped with Digital Multi Interface Shoe Analog Audio: Sony Cameras Equipped with Either Multi Interface Shoe or Digital Multi Interface Shoe

Q: 7. WHat are the specs for the xlr mic preamps section of this adapter? Noise, THD?

A: Sony has not published the spec's on the mic pre-amps for this unit.

Q: 8. Does SONY A7III support digital input from this adapter or analog only?

A: The Sony A7III will work with this product for Analog Audio only.

Q: 9. what is the difference between the K1 and the K3 ?

A: The K1 model is analog only, the K3 offers both analog and digital audio. The other major difference is the K1 has XLR inputs only, the K3 has XLR / TRS Combo Inputs. You will be able to use XLR or 1/4" connections with the K3.

Q: 10. does it use battery?
