Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How to get laptop to recognize this drive? Got as a replacement for failed hard drive -DelI Inspirion 15558

A: You will need either a second computer with a USB To SATA cable to initialize the drive or if you have Windows installation media, you would need to install the drive on your dell and boot from your installation media to initialize the drive and install Windows.

Q: 2. MAY I PUT THIS HD ON A SERVER DELL POWEREDGE T130 OS WINDOWS SERVER 2016 ?

A: Yes this drive would be supported.

Q: 3. Does this hard drive spin at 7200 RPM or 5400 RPM? I keep seeing conflicting information online on other site, so just want to verify.

A: It is 5400RPM.

Q: 4. Your pass answers are confusing so I will ask this clearly. What is the spin speed (rps) for this exact drive? This information is critical for purchase.

A: The Seagate 8TB BarraCuda SATA III 3.5" Internal HDD BH #SEST8000DMA4 is a 5400rpm hard drive. If you want 7200rpm, look at the Barracuda Pro instead which is 7200rpm. Seagate 8TB BarraCuda Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal HDD (Retail) BH #SET8000DMA4

Q: 5. Is this piece of equipment rack mountable?

A: Yes, I believe.

Q: 6. Just started using this model. Can anything be done to stop the 5 second delay when watching what is being recorded?

A: Joe, that is a function of how it's recorded, i.e. if you have a sync generator as part of your system, it will embed a delay in the recording, plus its also by design so you can watch a previous recording while you arealso recording. at least that is my understanding (I haven't tried it yet).

Q: 7. Is this compatible with any 2.5 HDD slot?

A: No! WARNING: This is a 15mm-thick HDD. Most 2.5 slots -- on laptops, micro PCs, etc. -- DO NOT ACCEPT 15mm HDD, even if it is 2.5 . Most are limited to 7mm or 9mm. Check the spec of your computer and the dimensions of the HDD before purchase.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the Drobo 5D?

A: It should be. Drobo states, "The Drobo 5D supports both standard 3.5” SATA hard disk drives (HDDs) as well as SATA solid state drives (SSDs) for added performance. For HDDs, these drives can be from any manufacturer and with any capacity." Drobo enclosures aren't as picky about hard drives as more advanced NAS/DAS enclosures are.

Q: 9. What is the rotation speed?

A: The rotation speed would be 5400 RPM

Q: 10. I have a Sony S270 hd video camera. Can I record straight to Dvd from the hd-sdi out put of the camera?

A: My quick answer: I believe it will not record directly to DVD, but it will record directly to Blu-Ray disk in real time. The manual indicates to record to DVD you must record to internal hard drive first and then burn to DVD.And now some background & my experience using the SR-HD2500 Blu-Ray Disk & HDD Recorder (the Blu-Ray Recorder). I do not specifically own the Sony S270 camera although I see that it has a variety of outputs including HD/SDI: BNC (x1 output) which lead me to believe it should connect directly to the Blu-Ray Recorder. I have owned and utilized the Blu-Ray Recorder for real time Blue-Ray (Not DVD) video recording from the Blackmagic ATEM TV studio SDI out (BNC connector) and directly from other SDI/BNC equipped cameras and converters. It works perfectly well for this and should work for any hd/SDI: BNC connector video source. Your question is if it will record straight to DVD and, reading the manual, it appears that to record to DVD you must record to internal hard disk first (HDD), and then to DVD (if DVD format is what you need). I record to Blu-Ray disk and it will record directly, (skipping the hard drive process). So, I dont believe it will record to DVD in real time in the way it will record to Blu-Ray format if that is what you need to do. Also, you must, of course, format the disk (whether DVD or Blu-Ray disk) prior to recording and then finalize the disk. Both straightforward and simple processes internal to the SR-HD250 Blu-Ray device. I have utilized this device to record entertainment at our State Fair and in my studio for over a year and it works perfectly well. The device appears very well made, and in particular the connectors are standard and have stood the test of use. Although I cannot speak to DVD recordings, the Blu-Ray recordings are superb. - Dr B.Enter an answer to this question.

They are fine. I got 5 of these drives and put them in my Drobo 5d. They just work and as far as I can tell, they are pretty fast.

Bought a new Dell XPS from B&H and wanted to configure with a backup internal RAID drive. This Seagate drive worked perfectly. Just needed the SATA cable and a bit of courage to open my new machine and mess with it. So far so good. Seems to have worked perfectly.

Arrived on time (blazing fast), hard drive was well packaged, easy to install, thought (and maybe it was there and I missed it) it would have been an idea to add the SADA connecting cord as a Suggested Product.

This is a solid hard drive. I wanted a good 2TB hard drive to use as a backup drive in my Windows 7 home computer. Using hard drives larger than 2TB is painful with Window 7. So, I wanted to get as much storage as I could. B&H had a GREAT price on this drive.

Barracuda Seagate Drives have been my main go to drives for all my back up work. I've never had one go down on me (knock on wood) so I can highly recommend them.

I have the confidence to recommend this drive without any hesitation. I did a lot of research before selecting it and it has proven to be what I had hoped for. I gave it 5 stars because I have used Seagate products in the past and found them reliable. GM

We've used a couple dozen of these HDDs for day-to-day video editing operations, including rendering and archiving. Our first Barracudas were 1TB; now we're using the 3TB. We've never had a failure, never lost any data.

My NAS dropped a drive. B&H had the replacement in stock and shipped faster than expected. I'm back in business!
