Under RAID 6, the device can achieve speeds up to 2480 MB/s. Cut down on time needed for virtually every aspect of the post-production workflow when using the D16 Thunderbolt 3. At lightning speed, users can transfer several hours of footage from a Blackmagic device to Adobe Premiere Pro. In turn, with uncompressed HD 10-bit and 12-bit video, users can edit ProRes 422 (HQ), ProRes 4444 XQ, and other data streams. Plus, thumbnails and preview rendering are more responsive when using large items with numerous high-definition clips. The D16 has a compact design that saves a lot of space, making it suitable for small video production teams and designers with limited desktop room. It also has a specially designed handle that makes it easy to carry, facilitating the work of video production teams by greatly increasing convenience when out and about.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I am understanding that this does not come with an actual hard drive, those come separate? And if so... what is recommended for this unit for editing video 4K?

A: It does come loaded with the drives. 28TB 2-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (2 x 14TB)

Q: 2. Why does the info state this: Thunderbolt 3 ports is used to interface with your host system at speeds of up to 480 MB/s," this seems very slow for Thunderbolt 3? The Promise Pegasus 3 claims speeds up to 2700mb/s, and then this write up claims faster speeds for USB 3.1. This is confusing copy and some clarification would be nice.

A: The SATA hard drives in this unit are the bottleneck and are slower than the TB3 is capable of.

Q: 3. What kind of drives are compatible? Can I replace a drive with 3.5 SATA III?

A: The proper replacement drive for this array is the 4TB Spare 4000 Enterprise Hard Drive. http://bhpho.to/1xuQIi8

Q: 4. Could I put larger capacity hard drives in this to increase the overall size?

A: This model can take drives up to 12TB capacity per drive.

Q: 5. photo?

A: You would be able to store photos on this drive.

Q: 6. Does this come with the cord to hook up to my 2017 Imac?

A: Yes. Mine came with 2 cords. One with both ends USB-3 and the other one end USB the other end USB-3.

Q: 7. Are the drives provided full performance ? I have heard that some units deliver with drives stickers with reduced performance.

A: There is no forced reduction in performance on any G-Tech drives.

Q: 8. Does this product have a max transfer speed of 440 MB/s as shown on this website or 500 as shown on G-Tech's website?

A: The transfer rate depends on many factors. It is capable of 500, but you are unlikely to ever hit that number in real world use. Also, max speed is only when set to Raid 0.

Q: 9. In order to make the HDMI port work, it has to be connected via thunderbolt 3 and not through USB 3.1 2nd gen port...is that right?

A: You can use the 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 port, while the HDMI port supports HDCP 2.2, HDR, and 4K/60 fps video passthrough.

Q: 10. Will the unit back up my photo files within the same folders as I have them in Lightroom? Or will the photos be in some other open list format?

A: If you're backing up with time machine, yes. If these will be your working files, no. Once you move the parent folder (outside LR) you will have to refresh the folder's location so that LR knows that your photos are now in a different hard drive even if they are under the same structure.
