The Pro Brass 67-52mm Step-Down Ring from Sensei allows 52mm-diameter threaded filters to be mounted onto lenses with 67mm filter threads. This ring removes the need to stack multiple filters for each lens thread size increasing the capability across a range of available lenses. The stronger brass construction is less likely to bind or become jammed, and with the large edge knurling, it's easier to grip and remove from equipment.

A: I believe that in this case it is based on personal preference. It can hold a safelight filter, or if you prefer the glass filters to the plastic sheet filters, you could use this holder. I prefer the plastic sheet filters even when there isn't a holder for it. It could also make split filtering easier and reduce double exposure.
