Electronic musicians, producers, and engineers looking to expand their BFD library will be impressed with BFD Virtually Erskine, a drum expansion library featuring jazz and rock kits played by Peter Erskine, who has played with some of the biggest names in jazz, pop, and rock such as Weather Report, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, and Kate Bush. Peter Erskine's drum sound and groove are perpetually in demand.

Peter Erskine played two DW drumkits and selected Zildjian cymbals for the recordings, which were conducted by experienced BFD sampling guru John Emrich in Peter's own studio. BFD Virtually Erskine features almost 15GB of highly detailed instruments including selected stick and brush versions and is particularly suitable for jazz, pop, rock and fusion. The Virtually Erskine library expansion is compatible with BFD Eco, BFD2, and BFD3 (version 3.4 or later) on Mac or Windows.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. With RAID used with DIP switches, can you still read individual hard drive S.M.A.R.T. info?

A: Most do not allow this. This one has not been tested.

Q: 2. I see suggested drives if use as NAS... if used DAS what drives are suggested?

A: This is always used for NAS, it is an expansion unit and not the NAS itself. You need to use NAS rated hard drives.

Q: 3. I'm currently using a 14TB external drive for Time Machine backup on my Mac. Can I remove and insert that hard drive into the QNAP and add another 14TB disk and use it as JBOD, or do I have to copy the Time Machine data and reformat the 2 drives?

A: It is recommended instead that you install drives that are certified compatible with the TR-004. You can then migrate the Time Machine backup to the TR-004.

Q: 4. This or the Synology DS420+/DS420j?

A: The DS420+/DS420j are standalone products the QNAP TR-004 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 1 RAID Expansion Enclosure is a expansion enclosure. It would depend on the specific use case.

Q: 5. Do you need to insert 4 drives off the bat, Or can you start with let's say 2? And if you can start with 2, do have to add 2 more at the same time, or can you add a 3rd, and then wait a while(like a year) and then add a 4th?

A: The QNAP TR-004 4-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Expansion Enclosure BH #QNTR004US allows you to start with 1 or more drives. Hardware raid will require you to erase everything when new drives are inserted if you want them to be part of the same RAID.

Q: 6. What is the maximum hard drive capacity this Raid enclosure will support?

A: The highest capacity drive verified as compatible with the QNAP TR-002 2-Bay USB 3.1 GEN 2 RAID Expansion Enclosure is the WD 22TB Ultrastar 7200 rpm SATA 3.5" Internal Data Center HDD, B&H # WE0F48155.

Q: 7. Can this be used as a local backup for a larger QNAP NAS (TVS-872xt)?

A: Yes, as per the manufacturer the TR-004 would be compatible for expansion as a local back up with the TVS-872XT.

Q: 8. Can I use 4 drives together, 3 drives for RAID 5 and one drive for a backup?

A: The storage pools on the QNAP TR-004 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 1 RAID Expansion Enclosure can be configured any way you need.
