Designed to help vloggers, content creators, mobile journalists, and run-and-gun videographers achieve clear, high-quality audio capture for their video shoots, the compact and lightweight Saramonic Vmic5 Pro camera-mount shotgun microphone offers even more level and tone controls than the Vmic5, along with focused supercardioid directionality, convenient headphone monitoring, and auto power. Its integrated shockmount allows easy mounting on a camera shoe or tripod while inhibiting vibrations and handling noise, and a detachable TRS cable is supplied for orderly wiring between the mic and your camera or portable recorder.

By operating on an internal rechargeable battery or USB bus power, the Vmic5 Pro is able to work with cameras that don't supply plug-in power or phantom power. The rear of the mic features onboard controls for the three-stage gain adjustment, intelligibility-enhancing treble boost, and high-pass filter—helpful functions that let you optimize the signal quality at the mic instead of during postproduction. The mic comes two types of windscreens for recording indoors or outside in high-wind environments.

The Pro version of the Vmic5 adds enhanced functionality and settings for experienced videographers while retaining the same compact size of the Vmic5.

  • 3-stage gain control (versus two stages on the Vmic5)
  • 2-stage bass control (versus one position on the Vmic5)
  • +5 dB treble boost
  • Automatic power on/off in response to plug-in power

The Vmic5 Pro features a directional supercardioid polar pattern that focuses on sound in front of it while greatly attenuating sound from the sides, making it a considerable step up from the audio capture quality of internal camera mics.

It features a gain switch with three positions—the +20 dB boost is for achieving clean gain on cameras with noisy preamps, the 0 dB setting is for use with high-quality preamps, and the -10 dB option is best when especially loud sources that could distort the recording.

A high-pass filter, selectable at 75 or 150 Hz, eliminates low-frequency noise and rumble caused by HVAC systems, wind, or footsteps that can ruin a recording. Engage the +5 dB treble boost to heighten the intelligibility of dialogue.

The integrated shockmount isolates the Vmic5 Pro from unwanted vibration noise and includes a built-in shoe mount, so it can be attached to cameras with ease. The bottom of the shoe mount features a 1/4"-20 threaded hole to enable mounting on a tripod.

The Vmic5 Pro runs on an internal USB-rechargeable battery for up to 120 hours, so your camera or recording device doesn't need to supply plug-in power or phantom power. Alternatively, the mic may be powered by a USB-connected device such as a power bank.

Use the included TRS output cable to connect the main 3.5mm output jack to your camera, mixer, or recorder. A built-in headphone output on the Vmic5 Pro enables you to hear your sound, even when your camera lacks a headphone jack.

Since the included cable is removable, it allows use of other 3.5mm TRS output cables (available separately) in its place. Attach a longer cable for use on a boompole, use a 3.5mm to Lightning cable (Saramonic SR-C2000) to connect to iPhones and iPads, 3.5mm to USB Type-C cable (Saramonic SR-C2001) to connect to Android smartphones, tablets, and computers, or a 3.5mm to TRRS cable (Saramonic SR-PMC2) for smartphones, tablets, and modern computers with a headphone port.

The inclusion of a foam windscreen and a furry windshield allows you to record anywhere with less noise from wind.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can I use this on my Canon R5?

A: Yes, the is compatible for use with the RODE VideoMic Pro+ Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 2. How is the shielding on this mic? My original Rode Video Mic Pro picks up RF spray from my Hollyland transmitter.

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro+ Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is a much better quality mic all around than the original VideoMic Pro. We don't have any specific details regarding the shielding of the mic itself. It's also possible that the cable is picking up the RF, so you may want to test your mic or the VideoMic Pro+ with a high quality cable that you know is well shielded. For more information regarding the shielding used inside of the microphone, you can contact Rode directly and they should be able to help. Their US offices are based in California and their phone number is 562-364-7400.

Q: 3. My genuine Rode rechargeable battery is not working correctly. (It won't charge) I thought I'd give double A batteries a try. However I cannot determine, from the battery compartment lid diagram, in which direction AA batteries must be installed. Can you please advise?

A: When installing AA batteries, the positive end (top) of the batteries go in first, with the negative end (bottom) facing out, to make contact with the lid.

Q: 4. How do I mount this to a BMPCC4K? I purchased a ProMediaGear 1/4"-20 Screw to Cold Shoe Adapter but it does not slide in still.

A: As far as I can tell, you have the right gear to make this work. If the lock-nut on the Microphone is open and you are still experiencing difficulties, perhaps something is damaged or bent (either on the mic or on the show adapter)?

Q: 5. Will this work with a Zoom H5? The Videomic Go does not. Just want to make sure before purchasing this time.

A: Yes the VideoMicPro is self powered with the 9V Battery so it can plug into any device that has a 3.5mm mic input. It doesn't rely on 'plug in power' like the VideoMic GO.

Q: 6. does this mic have a headphone jack? i want to use it with a mirrorless camera that does not have a headphone jack.

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro Plus does not have a headphone output.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with the Nikon d7000?

A: This microphone is the best ever! The new mount is fabulous and this will work on any camera with a plug in for a mic.

Q: 8. How long is the cable?

A: It is about 12 inchess long, though I do not have a ruler at the moment. I love this mike!

Q: 9. Is this mic comparable with the Nikon D850?

A: Yes it's comparable through your 3.5mm microphone input on your Nikon D850.

Q: 10. Does this work with a Fuji X-T3?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic Pro+ Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the FUJIFILM X-T3 Mirrorless Digital Camera. The Rode VideoMic Pro+ Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone has a 1/8” (3.5mm) miniphone plug which would connect to the MIC connection terminal pictured on the "Parts of the Camera" page (page 2) of the Fujifilm X-T3 Mirrorless Digital Camera's instruction manual (labeled in the image as #24).

Before this Rode I was using the Videomic NTG, unfortunately this Videomic NTG could not handle the SPL of the work environment that I had which is mostly electronic concerts, I was getting very high noise levels with the NTG. Doing some research and talking to colleagues they recommended this microphone which now works amazingly well and I love it. The price difference wasn't too much so if you are trying to pick between this and the NTG I would go with this one, it is just a bit more expensive but totally worth it.
