Musicians and producers looking for an advanced polyphonic analog tube synthesizer will be thrilled with the AIR Music Technology Vacuum Pro, a vintage-style polyphonic synthesizer featuring vacuum-tube synthesis with vacuum-tube circuit modeling that captures the crunchy, warm sound of the analog era. The instrument is 2-part multitimbral synthesizer that can be stacked, split, and layered to produce big, wide, and fat analog sounds.

Recreate your favorite sounds from the '70s and '80s. The four vacuum-tube oscillators provide four variable waveforms, which can morph between settings. The oscillators feed a mixer, where you can apply drive/distortion and ring modulation before passing through high-pass, band-pass, and low-pass filters. Vacuum Pro includes a modulation matrix that allows you to utilize the four envelopes and the syncable LFO. The bottom of the instrument includes a keyboard with an onboard arpeggiator for creating sequences and rhythms. The effects section includes built-in chorus/phaser and delay.

The synthesizer employs an Age function, which adds Drift and Dust controls, imparting vintage characteristics to your sound. Drift sets the amount of pitch drift to apply to the oscillators, while Dust makes the instrument sound old and noisy with crackling controls. Vacuum Pro's Smart page condenses all the individual parameter controls into eight macro knobs that enable you to quickly shape the sound of your patch without extensive tweaking. Macro knobs such as Punch, Emphasis, and Complexity add an intuitive workflow for perfecting your programming. Vacuum Pro comes complete with 350+ tweakable patches created by acclaimed sound designers Richard Devine and Mark Ovenden. You can load these patches separately into each Vacuum Pro part to combine and experiment with multitimbral sounds. Vacuum Classic is Mac and Windows compatible and works within most major DAWs as an AU, VST or AAX plug-in.

Q: 4. How would you compare to a Hollyland Mars 400, Teradek 500 and others?

A: The customer feedback on the Mars 400 units has been fairly positive. The Teradek 500 series has had a longer period of exposure on the market and is generally considered a higher level system by industry professionals, but the decision of which would be the proper wireless video system for one's given application is solely dependant on the user's requisites for "critical" content acquisition -- in other words, whether or not the signal is being sent for recording purposes or whether it is being transmitted for monitoring only.
