Super BKM 1x12 BD12 is the Choptones SuperCabinet IR library created by capturing a Supro Black Magick 1x12" cabinet loaded with a Supro BD-12 speaker. It is an extensive and systematic capture created with 11 microphones, eight to 16 positions per microphone, and multiple mic preamps, for more than 300 IRs globally. Captures are performed with a motorized mic stand in order to have consistent measurements across libraries.

Designed as extension cab for the Black Magick combo, the poplar plywood cabinet has a straight front and an open back. The speaker, with its oversized ceramic magnet and 95W rating, is powerful and great for British Jimmy Page sounds and crunch tones.

The library is created for the TH-U SuperCabinet, which allows users to:

  • Graphically browse the IRs in the library
  • Blend IRs together
  • Craft new cabinet tones with the multiband mode
  • Use the IR in the software
  • Export the IRs in WAV format, compatible with software IR loaders and all major hardware modelers

11 microphones were used during the capturing session:

  • AKG C414
  • Audio-Technica 2035
  • Beyerdynamic M160
  • Electro-Voice RE20
  • Neumann U 87
  • Royer R-121
  • Sennheiser MD 21
  • Sennheiser MD 421
  • Sennheiser MD 441
  • Shure SM7
  • Shure SM57

Every microphone was moved to four different horizontal positions (cap, cap edge, cone, and cone edge) and two distances, for a total of eight IRs each. For some microphones, the set of eight measurements was repeated with the microphone off axis (45°). The entire measurement set was repeated twice with two different mic preamps—a Neve 1073 and a German preamp.

Q: 1. Will this remote work with the Olympus M10 Mark IV?

A: Unfortunately, this remote is not compatible with the OM-D E-M10 Mark IV.

Q: 2. Will this unit also act as a focus assist light to help the camera focus under low light conditions as does the Canon st-e2 ?

A: This unit does offer an AF assist light for focusing in low light conditions.

Q: 4. Does this work with nikon 7000 and sb 800 flash?

A: Yes, however if you utilize the flash control "Commander Mode" function of the D7000 you don't actually need it. Check your camera's user manual for more information.

Q: 5. Will it work with 580EX2 ?

A: Indeed, that's how I use it. It's amazing and you can set all settings in the Camera if you have relatively modern Canon DSLR.

Q: 6. Is there any point in getting this for my Nikon D810? I understand the D810 has commander mode built in, but I am looking for a method to create a stronger infrared signal to read my off camera Speedlights.

A: I don't know if this will get you better range than the built in commander mode, but it does offer other advantages. First, I believe the built in commander uses the pop-up flash to signal the off-camera flashes. Even if you have it set to not contribute to the exposure, it will still probably add noticeable light in some scenarios. The pop-up flash can also cause people to blink. This avoids all of that. You could tape a piece of IR plastic over your pop-up, but this is definitely more professional looking. Last, the UI on this makes it very convenient to make setting changes. Especially if you are not using i-TTL, the UI on this makes it easy to adjust the flash power of each group without having to go through the camera menu. The downside of this is that you have to attach something to your camera while built in commander is, well... built in. In short, I don't know if this will get you better range, but it offers other advantages and conveniences. This does have better range than the Nikon SU-800, and also has a more compact shape. Whether those conveniences are worth the price is a matter of opinion. I got this because my camera body doesn't have built in commander. If my next camera body has built in commander, I will probably still use this. I typically just leave this attached anyway since I don't put my flashes on-camera very often. I am just an amateur, so my use cases differ greatly from a professional.

Q: 7. Since this unit will not work fully with my Nikon SB 28 DX, then what would be the best remote brand and model that would operate my flash remotely? I would imagine that it would have to have a receiver component that my remote Nikon flash plugs in to, right?

A: A compatible radio trigger for use with your SB-28 DX is the Vello FreeWave LR Wireless Flash Trigger and Receiver Kit, B&H # VERFWLR. You would still have to walk over to the flash to control it manually in terms of light output, but it would offer you wirelessly triggering up to 600 ft. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 8. Can I REMOTELY trigger both the shutter on my Canon R6 and fire the Canon 430EXII flash in Manual mode?

A: As long as you have a separate method to trigger your camera, you will trigger a flash setup using the Vello FWIRC-C FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Canon. The Shutter release remote triggers the camera and the radio trigger in the hot shoe of the Canon R6 will fire any flashes that it has been connected to via the line of site ETTL communication method.

Q: 9. Work with Pen -F?

A: The Vello IRM-O IR Remote Mini for Select Olympus Cameras is not compatible with the Olympus PEN F camera.

Q: 10. I have a Csnon 580 EXII. If I buy this. Should I also buy the Vello receiver? Or It just work alone with the camera and the flash? Thanks!

A: This transmitter can fire a 580EX II optically, as long as the two are in line of sight with one another.
