A compact wide-angle prime with intuitive handling and an advanced optical design, the black M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f/2 from Olympus is a 24mm equivalent lens for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. The wide focal length pairs with the bright f/2 maximum aperture to benefit available light shooting as well as astrophotography applications. The lens's optical design makes use of one aspherical element, one DSA (Double Super Aspherical) element, and a Super HR (high refractive index) element to reduce spherical aberrations and control distortion for notable sharpness, and one extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing for high clarity and color accuracy. Additionally, the lens is characterized by its Movie & Still Compatible autofocus system for quick and quiet performance, as well as a manual focus clutch and Snapshot Focus mode for intuitive control over focus position and depth of field.

Wide-angle prime lens is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and offers a 24mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions.

Aspherical, DSA, and Super HR elements combine to control distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and resolution.

One extra-low dispersion element minimizes chromatic aberration and color fringing for greater clarity and color fidelity.

Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system benefits both photo and video applications due to its smooth, quiet, and fast performance.

Manual focus clutch lets you quickly pull the focusing ring into place for direct, intuitive focus control. This also reveals the Snapshot Focus mode, which incorporates a depth of field scale for working with hyperfocal focusing and zone focusing techniques.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces a smooth bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens has a clicked manual focus as Ive seen o na youtube video or thats an older version?

A: Yes, you can switch from auto focus to manual by pulling the lens ring towards the camera. It's a nice lens.

Q: 2. Looking for a wide lens that handles point light sources well, like shooting into a sunset or sunrise. I have the 7-14 f2.8 and the 12-40 f2.8 and both lenses have lots of flare when shooting into s strong point light source. How does this lens handle that type of lighting?

A: The only times I have had flare is if I am shooting with the sun in the frame and it wasn't behind any clouds and it was prominent in the frame (like center upper third) and it is wide open (f/2). In general I would say the flare control is quite good. It isn't something I really think of as an issue when I am using the lens. I would highly recommend. In comparison to the two lenses you mentioned, I have never used the 7-14, and I have not used the 12-40 extensively, but I would say the flare control is noticeably better on the 12 than the 12-40. Looking through a few thousand photos with my 12 I only see a small few with flare.

Q: 3. Hello! How old is the warranty?

A: This will come with a Limited 1-Year USA Warranty.

Right now OM systems does not seem to a pancake in their Pro Series (double check me on this.) But this “non-pro” lens is really great and seems very well-built just the same. I’m glad I bought it!

What i like is that the lens is small but solid and made of metal outside. The optics are sharp and fast.

I will use this lens to shoot interiors, some street work and my art. It works great on my Panasonic cameras. I tested Panasonic's 7-14 and found it didn't equal their cheapo kit lens. This Oly appears to be as sharp as my Leica DG 45. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a lens shade. Thanks for the gouge Olympus. Only $100 for the shade? i'll make my own.

I use this lens for landscapes and casual shots on my Panasonic GF-2 and my Olympus E-P3. I love it's size and the quality of images. For the price, I wish the build was a little more solid but it's pretty good.

Great woods walk lens especially as the leaves are turning Autumn colors. Doesn't matter if it's on an E-PL1, E-M5 or E-M1 Mark III.

I am an enthusiastic novice to micro 4/3 cameras, and I was blown away by this lens. I wanted to delve more deeply into night-time and astro photography, and this lens is amazingly bright! The manual focus clutch also really, really helped me, a complete newb, to get sharp focus on stars easily. It was a huge confidence builder and on sale at a fantastic discount.

I love this lens, the quality, the depth of field markings, the manual focus capability, it is what I have been looking for. Normally I use program mode, but with this lens I need to adjust the aperture to get control of the depth of field. I hope Olympus makes other lenses like this. I use it both on my EPL-2 and the G3. What I have been looking for.

I pair this lens with Panasonic GH2 and it produces the highest contrast and resolution pictures among my M43 lens pools. Color saturation is perfect balance. Very well rewarded from this lens!

The 12mm f/2 is a high quality optic in construction as well as in output. Images are very sharp throughout the frame even wide open and the high micro-contrast gives them a rather realistic look. Despite being made of robust metal the lens is surprisingly small and light. The distance scale and actual DOF scale are engraved into the barrel and make zone focusing as easy as it gets. The operation of the focusing ring is fast and intuitive. AF is silent and very fast. My only complaint is the lack of a bundled hood, which has to be purchased separately. I hope this lens is the first in a series of high quality fast primes.
