The RED 9-Pin EXT to Flying Lead Cable, 1.3' long, is designed for advanced KOMODO users. It breaks out to any of the functions of the EXT port, including timecode I/O, GPI/GPO, genlock, RS-232 transmit/receive, and 5V aux (500ma max), allowing users to create custom cables. Timecode out (pin 2) is not currently supported on the KOMODO.

This cable is not compatible with the RED DSMC, DSMC2, or RANGER.

A: No. Changes in resolution will result in changes in the active sensor area that can be down scaled. You can do that in your NLE.

Q: 4. How much does this weigh total (when battery is connected too)? I’m looking to upgrade from a C100, shooting doc handheld.

A: For the parts that will be used during shooting we have a total weight of 8.85 pounds. However there may be additional weight that you will need to add to this system for shooting. It is highly recommend that for handheld shooting this this camera you will need a shoulder rig. A: A regular USB-C cable cannot be used with the RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0" LCD Monitor (Direct Mount). It must be the proprietary Red cable. This is a 39 inch version that can be used. https://bhpho.to/3lYCa8V

Q: 6. What does "Shimmed PL mount" mean? Can you switch the lens mount to the other lens mounts offered by RED? (Like Nikon and Canon lens mounts.)

A: Shims are meant to correct flange distance with various styles of PL mount lenses, but the RED DIGITAL CINEMA RED RANGER with GEMINI 5K S35 Sensor does not appear to have an interchangeable lens mount currently.

Q: 7. Heard with this being a DSMC2 that the fan will get loud after a while of use. Do you know of any external components that can drown out the noise when shooting?

A: No there are no external components that will muffle the fan noise, and no such product is recommended by Red as it may cause over heating and damage the camera

Q: 8. Is the choice between this card and the equally-priced, Red-approved AV PRO or Exascend really so simple as to be settled by the fact that one has a top speed of 280 MB/s while the others sit at around ~500?

A: The RED CFast card has special firmware that is customized for the RED DSMC3 camera bodies to provide additional reliability when recording. Other than the firmware it is essentially the same CFast as the Anglebird AV Pro. In fact, if you look at the back of the card you will see that RED partnered with Angelbird to develop the CFast card (you can find more info on that here https://bit.ly/3mYojjn). If you plan to use CFast card for one of the RED DSMC3 camera bodies then the RED branded card offers slightly more reliability than the others cards. If you plan to use the card with other cameras then there is no benefit to choosing the RED branded card.
