Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it safe to change settings on the camera while it is mounted on the Ronin S? What if I have to stop down my aperture? Do I have to stop the gimbal first before touching the camera to change the setting?

A: Yes, you will be able to safely adjust camera settings while your camera is mounted on the Ronin S.

Q: 2. Has anyone experienced any problems with the lock mechanism of the quick release plate? I received mine, the plate locks but it does not unlock when the lever is pulled back to its unlocked position.

A: Hey M C, are you making sure to press the silver button on the side of the mount?

Q: 3. Unfortunatly I had my DJI ronin S plate stolen. Does a stantard manfroto plate would work, does RS2/3 plates can be used?

A: The E-Image GP1 Quick Release Plate BH #EIGP1 • MFR #GP1 can be used as a substitute for the ones provided with the DJI Ronin-S.

Q: 4. Can i control a Canon T7i from the gimbal

A: We're afraid not. While you will be able to balance and shoot with the T7i on the Ronin-S the gimbal will not offer control over the camera.

Q: 5. Is C100 Mark II compatible?

A: This gimbal is designed to work with Mirrorless and DSLR cameras. However you still may be able to balance a camera like the C100 Mark II on it. More than likely you will need to remove the top handle from the C100 Mark II and you may not have the full range of motion with the gimbal when using it. However because of this gimbals 8 pound load capacity it is still possible to balance it.

Q: 6. Will this work with a Sony FS5?

A: For a list of available controls for different cameras, please click this link. a href= https://d32xrmdsd5z66d.cloudfront.net/Products+info/Ronin-S+Camera+Compatibility+List+(2018.05.29 target= _blank https://d32xrmdsd5z66d.cloudfront.net/Products+info/Ronin-S+Camera+Compatibility+List+(2018.05.29/a).pdfRonin-S can carry a maximum payload of 8lbs and according to our tests, the Ronin-S can capture stabilized footage with a 5D Mk IV + EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM lens.

Q: 7. Will I be able to balance a 5dmk3 with a sigma 14-24 2.8 lens. My concern is that this is a very heavy lens and won’t be able to balance it correctly because the lens will make it front heavy.

A: This set up should work for the Ronin S, but as you suggested, it may indeed be front heavy. To off set that, we would recommend the SmallRig Counterweight Mounting Plate for DJI Ronin-S Gimbal (SMBSS2308) with counter weights (SMAAW2284).

Q: 8. What features of the Ronin-S will work with my D7500? How will I know when full compatibility will be available. If I buy a Ronin-S now with limited functionality, will it be upgraded later?

A: The D7500 has not been determined to be compatible regarding connectivity. Balancing and normal use should be no issue, but we are currently working on expanding the compatibility list.

Q: 9. I Have a canon t6i and a kit 18-55 mm lens and a BG-E18 battery grip with 2 batteries, will this setup be on the heavier side and strain the motors?

A: Hi Ryan! Both Matthew and Ben made solid points. I would say the battery grip would be the most troublesome part of your kit because of the added height. I also wanted to mention that if you shoot mostly on the wide end, the Ronin SC might also accommodate your set up, although the Ronin S has more wiggle-room for larger lenses and combinations.

Q: 10. Will pull-focus be available for sony a7 in the future?

A: We are not aware of any plans for the follow focus feature to work with Sony A7 in the future. However DJI will be releasing a focus motor for the Ronin-S, once that is release you will be able to pull focus with lenses on a Sony A7 camera.
