Operating like a projector, the LTM Focal Spot focuses light through two glass plano-convex lenses to produce a concentrated beam of light with a smooth field and sharp edges. Four adjustable framing shutters cut and shape the light, creating slashes of light in almost any shape. Rotating 360°, this unit is used to highlight a specific area or add to a background. It attaches to the accessory holder on the front of the light by an optional retainer ring.

Q: 1. Is there any possibility you can use a monopod? I don't use or have a tripod.

A: Hi Carol, Thank you for your interest in Reikan FoCal. A tripod is a required part of calibration and testing in order to achieve consistent and accurate results. Using a monopod won't work as it would not keep the camera stable enough for a series of test images to be taken. Best Regards, Dave

Q: 2. I see this works for lens up to 400mm, but would it work on a Will it work on a Nikon 200-500mm 5.6 zoom? Thanks

A: Hi Bill, FoCal Plus is limited to calibrating lenses up to 400mm focal length, you could calibrate the 200-500mm at the wider end but not at the telephoto end. With focal lengths over 400mm (i.e. 401mm and more) you would need to instead use FoCal Pro Best Regards, Dave

Q: 3. Does the 420 watt ltm pepper fresnel take smaller wattage bulbs?

A: You can use a smaller wattage in the LTM Pepper 420 such as the Ushio JCD 300W Lamp (300W/120V) GY9.5 B&H # USJCD120300Q. An image is shown below for reference.

Q: 4. Are these lights dimmable with a separate dimmer?

A: Yes, these lights are dimmable with a separate inline dimmer and switch, but make sure you use a good dimmer to get the best dimming. There are a couple $40-$100 that are pretty great.

Q: 5. How do you insert the bulb and attach the barn door?

A: The top of the light opened up and the bulb just twest in. The barn doors just slide in to the tracks after you turn the top LACH

Q: 6. can it be focused?

A: I purchased the stand with the light and by focused if you mean to adjust up and down and and left to right...yes, the stand allows it to go up and down. I also got the barn doors so I could narrow the beam of light. I have limited space and am still playing around with the distance to the still life. As far as the light itself, I don't see any way to focus it and there was nothing in the directions... but someone told me there is something inside where the lens is that can be adjusted. I don't see any adjustments, they may have been talking about something home made , but you'd need to be careful as these get VERY hot! Barn doors can get petty hot too, so I try to adjust before I turn it on. Hope this answers your questions. Dorothy

Q: 7. Can you get the LTM Pepper 100W Fresnel with a bulb that provides 5500-5600 Kelvin units?

A: Unfortunately, there are no daylight balanced halogen lamps for this fresnel.

Q: 8. Can you use it with canon 1.4x and 2x teleconverters ?

A: Yes, you are able to calibrate with FoCal while mounted with teleconverters.

Q: 9. does the program create a report?

A: yes

Q: 10. I have this LTM Pepper 420 Fresnel. What soft box kit would work with this?

A: First and foremost, the Chimera Circular Speed Ring (4.25"), BH # CHSRC425VP would be needed. That can fit with a softbox such as the Impact Luxbanx Duo Small Rectangular Softbox (16 x 22"), BH # IMLBRDS. http://bhpho.to/3hHVqEf http://bhpho.to/3b5Tbcv

I owned a couple of Peppers and I've rented countless of them lighting Hollywood movies. They are the smallest fresnel light made, and can also take a 200 watt globe which puts out an amazing amount of light. For photo work you'd want two double scrims (wire screens, each of which reduces output by one stop), one single scrim to reduce half a stop, a half single and a half double scrim to reduce output from any one side of the lamp, 4 way barn doors, and maybe a snoot set (narrows output down into a softly defined pool). Peppers are built like little tanks and made to take abuse and keep working. Having looked at many reading lamps, I've decided the 100w Pepper is the best that money can buy. I'll mount it either on a wall or on a brand-new century (grip) stand with articulated arm so I can boom it out. For video, with either a battery belt or plugged into the wall, you can attach it to camera and it makes a nice 'obie' light.

I'm retired now and planning to set this lamp up as a reading light. It does everything that a 12000 watt light will do -- spots, floods, tilts, and pans, which is far more than thousand dollar designer lights will do. To make it complete, I'll add 4-way barn doors, and a snoot which contains it to a small pool of light, and instead of a conventional 3 leg vertical stand, will mount it on a "C-stand" which B&H sells, and which can put the light head anywhere you want it. Note, you can double the output with a 200 watt globe. Also take a look at the Arri line which are of equal quality, but maybe a more interesting industrial look.

The best thing about this light is that you can tilt up or down to a greater degree than the ARRI 150. It will also take a up to a 200 watt globe. The Arri 150 is built better, but more expensive, it doesn't tilt as much...Which to me is important and useful. The AC cable WILL either melt or become loose with use. This will have to be replaced or repaired in time, depending on use usually a couple of years. Why won't LTM fix this? It's been the same for 20 years... But I still buy them!

Perfect compact light for painting studio work. Quarantine has led me back to an old pursuit. This provides dramatic, controlled light with barn door attachment in lieu of the ideal, natural north light.
