Q: 1. Where's the fan sound? Ive been using this unit for 3 days and feels a little hot, but the fan doesnt start. Also I connected my 2nd display to the TB port of this unit and doesn't work... Am I missing something?

A: Just turned on my 8TB G-RAID TB. There is a startup sound, then it has only a very faint sound, which I assume is the fan but I'm not really sure. I searched the G-Tech support pages but couldn't find anything specific to the G-RAID fan. There was something about another model, G-Safe, having a fan that only comes on when the drive overheats. But I don't know if that applies to the G-RAID too. I have a vague memory that my drive case sometimes feels a little warm and maybe reading somewhere that that's OK. But if yours feels really hot, you might want to just return it and ask to exchange it for another one. Also, do you have at least 4 inches of free space around all sides of the drive? I think that's supposed to be especially important in the rear, in terms of good ventilation.

Q: 2. I would like to daisy chain this device with a G-RAID 4TB drive. If I plan to configure in RAID 0, what will the setup look like? Will it be one big speed drive or two separate RAID 0 drives?

A: Daisy chaining allows you to connect multiple drives through a single port on your system, but it does not combine the drives. They will each show up as individual devices still.

Q: 3. Is the drive 2x4tb or 2x2tb?

A: It is pre-configured as RAID 0, therefore it has 2x 2TB drives. RAID 0 is not redundant, therefore you do not lose any drive capacity. If this were pre-configured as a RAID 1 and still said 4TB G-RAID , it would be 2x4TB since the 2 drives would mirror each other, giving you a total of 4TB usable space.

Q: 4. Does G-RAID 8TB means the actual capacity is 4TB?

A: If you leave the unit as RAID 0, then you will have 8TB capacity, and the device would be used as a working drive. If you reconfigure it as RAID 1 (mirror) then you will have 4TB of useable space, and a duplicate of your data on the 2nd drive.

Q: 5. I assume this burner will burn Blu-rays authored for a standard Blu-ray player for TV?

A: Yes, the ASUS BW-16D1X-U External Blu-ray Drive BH #ASBW16D1XU is capable of burning Blu ray data discs as well as authored discs for blu ray player playback.

Q: 6. can you reformat from raid 0 to raid 1?

A: This G-RAID can not be configured to RAID 1.

Q: 7. Is hardware RAID 1 supported on this?

A: As far as I can tell, the RAID controller on the drive does NOT allow you to switch between RAID 0 and RAID 1, but you can switch it to RAID 1 through the OS X disk utility. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Q: 8. l have a Windows 10 tablet that has a USB port. Will this DVD player work on my tablet with external power?

A: If you have usb 2.0 or 3.0 port it shall work.

Q: 9. i want to rip my blu-ray dics for my plex server. will this unit allow me to rip my personal blu-ray movies?

A: Yes, this device is capable of ripping Blu-ray discs.

Q: 10. Is this okay to use in Europe? And if so, is there a power cord that I could use there with this?

A: The included AC adapter supports 100-240v. Please note that the included plug is the US plug. You would need a plug adapter to use in Europe.

Drive is great. My only issue I've had is the on/off switch located in the back. The design is not great and it take more than a little effort to slide it from off to on and vise versa. I have not used it yet to burn any disks but will do so in the near future. Drive is a little big, but looks good on the desktop.

I bought this a couple of months ago to add Blu Ray/DVD ability to my computer. There is no room for an internal device, so I bought this external one. Let me say that this drive has exceeded all of my expectations with it's speed and quality. Best thing is that I can use it with both my PC and Mac. I burn a lot of sports DVD's and like to back up my computers also. Highly recommend this burner.
