My lens has plenty of room at just under 3 in. at widest point, still protected well. I have this case velcroed onto a matching Lowenpro zoom bag. Fits nice and tight, but the whole thing is a little unbalanced with no exterior pouch on the other side. That would be way too big for me. I compensate by wearing it cross-shoulder rather than in front with a chest or waste strap
