This memory set is perfect for spreading out your memory cost, as you can add a second 64GB (2 X 32GB) down the road to get a full 128GB machine. I know it’s probably overkill, but I’ve never before had 128GB. And, given hyper-threading, having extra memory for 16 virtual cores may help in multitasking, using all those cores more efficiently. 128GB total memory is what OWC has tested and verified for this machine (Apple says it tops out at 64GB). OWC says Apple didn’t have time to test the bigger SIMM cards, and that’s why they stop at 64GB. I’ve done this “2 X memory” on an older 8GB-Max Apple book, and it worked fine (giving me 16GB total).
