The UV-IR Cut #486 MRC Basic Filter from B+W is a 60mm ultraviolet and infrared control filter that is useful for digital cinematography and still photography. When used, 88% of ultraviolet light waves are blocked at 380 nanometers, along with 95% of infrared light waves at 700 nanometers, ensuring that light limited to the visible spectrum is recorded. When used along with multi-stop neutral-density filters, potential infrared color shifts are prevented or minimized, preserving color accuracy throughout the frame. This filter also reduces unwanted blue castes while recording digital video or still photos under daylight that also features intense ultraviolet light.

B+W MRC Basic filters are made with the exclusive Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) nano premium coating technology. This high-quality broadband coating is applied on both sides and enhances the optical imaging properties, allowing uniform and increased transmittance across the entire light spectrum to be achieved, with minimal physically induced remaining reflection. The nano all-around protection on the filter glass also ensures increased scratch resistance and extremely fast, easy cleaning, providing a long filter life. The slim filter ring design is compatible with wide-angle lenses with an equivalent width of a 17mm full-frame lens. The top knurling is redesigned for enhanced gripping.

88% of ultraviolet light waves are blocked at 380 nanometers, before which they are further removed, reducing bluish cast of daylight when recording video or still photos.

95% of infrared light waves are blocked at 700 nanometers, after which they are progressively eliminated.

Useful with CCD or CMOS sensors to filter out infrared light pollution that causes color shifts frequently associated with high-definition recording with multi-stop neutral-density filters.

Does not require adjustments to exposure while in use.

Thirty layers of interference coatings on the front surface limit light that falls on a digital camera sensor to the visible spectrum.

Multicoated rear surface prevents internal ghosting and reflections.

Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.

F-Pro brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

55mm front filter threads allow use with other filters to protect the front surface or combine with other effects.

Plastic case for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will all of automatic the features on this lens work with the JVC Gyls300? And is there a crop factor with this and the JVc?

A: Yes, this lens should work with the LS300's auto focus. The lens is meant to cover a Micro Four Thirds sensor, so it will have a 2x crop factor and be the 35mm equivalent of a 24-120mm lens.

Q: 2. Are the optics of this lens going to be on par with the 12-35mm 2.8 previous gen? That is an amazing lens, but the zoom on this thing is tempting cause 35mm isn't enough.

A: I have both lenses, and the new lens is a bit better. It's equally sharp, with better color rendition and does not cause sun flare to become green and purple blobs.

Q: 3. The specs its not indicate if it has constant 2.8 aperture throughout the focal length?

A: It does not have constant 2.8 aperture; the range is 2.8 - 4 and changes gradually as you zoom from 12 to 60 mm. It will maintain constant aperture if you set it to 4 or higher to begin with.

Q: 4. I am a bit confused, it states that it is a DX format lens, but states it is compatible with the Z6/Z7 cameras. Will it function in FX mode on a Z6/Z7 camera? If so, I could see this lens being a nice compact video lens with a gimbal.

A: When using this lens on an FX camera, the FX camera would go into DX mode, and you'd be using the center most portion of the sensor as opposed to the full size of an FX sensor.

Q: 5. How bad is the focus breathing?

A: Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens has some focus breathing but it is low and not very noticeable.

Q: 6. is this 12-60mm truly parfocal lens?I just saw a review that showed it was, but have not yet seen anyone else speak of this or prove also.

A: I am an amateur at best, but, from my understanding of a parfocal lens, I would say yes; it maintains crisp focus while moving from 12 to 60mm with or without the autofocus switched on.

Q: 7. What f/stop does this lens have at 35mm?

A: The aperture number increases Linearly with the zoom. If I use A mode and set the initial aperture to f2.8 and turn the zoom up, the aperture will move to 2.9,3.0,3.1... 3.9, 4.0 to reach 60mm. The Panasonic rep said it is good for video. Some people have hoped that it will remain 2.8 until ... mm NO. Does not work that way.

Q: 8. Will the ios on this lens will work with lumix GX8?. Thanks

A: Yes it will it was built to work with this camera and works well I have the combo and it my grab and go set up.

Q: 9. How is the focusing ? with a ring with infinity ?

A: There is a focus ring on the lens but it is focus-by-wire and not mechanically linked. So, no, there are no stops at infinity and at the closest focusing distance. The ring turns very smoothly and focus is achieved quickly and easily. This is a hefty and extremely well built lens.

Q: 10. What ND filter do i need to buy to fit with this lens?

A: ND filters are not mandatory if your camera has in-body ND filter simulator. However if you must, any filters with a thread diameter of 46mm should do.

Attached this to my Olympus 12-50mm lens on my E-M5. Works well and has no visible image degradation. The nano coating makes cleaning this filter easier than any other filter I have ever used.
