With its brilliant sheen for the top end and a naturally smooth roll off of the lower mids, the TAF SMALLTEX is a favorite amplifier cabinet for recording blues and country—the tone remains true no matter what. This library features IRs systematically captured with 14 mics for over 100 total impulse responses. The mics recorded IRs in 8 positions each with two distances using a Neve 1073/VR Legend console.

SuperCabinet IR processor makes it easy to blend and create custom cabinet tones and export IRs in WAV format for use in external IR loaders and modelers. Andy from TheAmpFactory in his Orangetreestudios HQ captured a Custom 2x12 with Eminence Texus Heat speakers that excel at blues and country. They offer a brilliant sheen for the top end and a naturally smooth roll-off of the lower mids.

  • Graphically browse the IRs in the library
  • Blend them together
  • Craft new cabinet tones with the unique multiband mode
  • Use the IR in the software
  • Export the IRs in WAV-file format, compatible with software IR loaders and all the major hardware modelers

The microphones used during the capture sessions for this IR library are:

  • AKG C414
  • Audix i5
  • Beyerdynamic M160
  • DPA 4011
  • Electrovoice RE20
  • Neumann U47

All the measurements have been created with the Neve 1073/VR preamp. All IRs in the library are phase aligned, so they can be blended without phase cancellation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I REMOTELY trigger both the shutter on my Canon R6 and fire the Canon 430EXII flash in Manual mode?

A: As long as you have a separate method to trigger your camera, you will trigger a flash setup using the Vello FWIRC-C FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Canon. The Shutter release remote triggers the camera and the radio trigger in the hot shoe of the Canon R6 will fire any flashes that it has been connected to via the line of site ETTL communication method.

Q: 2. Does this work with nikon 7000 and sb 800 flash?

A: Yes, however if you utilize the flash control "Commander Mode" function of the D7000 you don't actually need it. Check your camera's user manual for more information.

Q: 3. its work with Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight?

A: When the Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight Flash is set for off-camera usage as an optical infrared receiver, yes, the Vello FWIRC-N FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Nikon will work as a on-camera Commander to wirelessly control your flash.

Q: 4. will this work with the Canon 50D ? I also have a Canon 580EXII which I want have work with my 50D instead of my Pocket wizards

A: This flash commander can work with the Canon 50D to fire the 580EX II.

Q: 5. I have a Nikon D700 camera & a Nikon SB700 speed light. Will this work with this camera/flash combination?

A: I have only used on a Canon. It works as advertised.

Q: 6. Does it work with Yongnuo Speedlite YN600EX-RT for Canon?

A: While this transmitter could work with a Yongnuo YN 600 EX RT flash, Vello has not tested this flash, therefore we cannot confirm that these items are 100 % compatible with one another. Your results may vary.

Q: 7. have a d5100 and SB600Flash...will this Vello be compatible and trigger the SB600?without an additional receiver?

A: It is compatible with the SB-600. I've never used it with a D5100 so unable to confirm that.

Q: 8. Does this work with the Nikon SB 28 DX?Do I have to attach anything to the Nikon Flash or does it receive signals from the remote automatically by IR out of the box?Do I understand it correctly that the unit will control my flash remotely including power control, TTL and also in Manual mode?

A: Since the Nikon SB-28DX is not compatible with the Nikon CLS system nor does it use i-TTL communication, it would not be compatible with this product. When using the product with a Nikon i-TTL compatible flash, you would need to set the flash to remote mode in order to control the power, TTL, and to use the flash in manual mode.

Q: 9. Will this unit also act as a focus assist light to help the camera focus under low light conditions as does the Canon st-e2 ?

A: This unit does offer an AF assist light for focusing in low light conditions.

Q: 10. Since this unit will not work fully with my Nikon SB 28 DX, then what would be the best remote brand and model that would operate my flash remotely? I would imagine that it would have to have a receiver component that my remote Nikon flash plugs in to, right?

A: A compatible radio trigger for use with your SB-28 DX is the Vello FreeWave LR Wireless Flash Trigger and Receiver Kit, B&H # VERFWLR. You would still have to walk over to the flash to control it manually in terms of light output, but it would offer you wirelessly triggering up to 600 ft. Please see the image below for reference.
