A: Yes i have experience different 5-6 cases of faulty 3TB seagate HDD's.Most have the same problem, and yeah in about 1 and half years. It was a huge loss every time. I loose all the data, so i do not recommend any one these 3TB's. Specially i noticed in seagate and 1 WD also. 2TB's are very good long lasting. Hope this helps.

A: The difference might be that ST3000DM008 is the part number for the bare drive while ST3000DMA08 is the part number for the drive in a retail box. I bought a 2TB version ST2000DMA06 which arrived with that part number on a retail box while the bare drive part number is ST2000DM006.
