The Countryman E6s Omnidirectional Microphone is a miniature earset microphone for virtually invisible operation. The compact size and placement just in front of the ear make this microphone particularly well-suited for intimate theater and broadcast applications, or any use where low mic visibility is a key factor.

The omnidirectional pickup pattern provides a generous and forgiving pickup area around the perimeter of the capsule, while the stainless steel construction stands up to daily use, makeup, and sweat. The mic also comes with 3 different interchangeable caps that let you choose between a flat, bright, or very bright frequency response.

This version of the E6s is tan and comes with a 2mm diameter Duramax cable. It terminates to a Switchcraft TA5-F connector for use with Lectrosonics wireless transmitters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where is the frequency response chart for this microphone? Not just the high/low range, and not the polar pattern which is obvious.

A: Sony does not offer much information in the way of detailed specs for the ECM-XYST1M, which is not so unusual for consumer products. I was able to find this page which includes two charts based on directivity for 0 and 120 degrees at 1 kHz for 0, -10, -20 and -30 dB left and right channels. http://www.sony.net/Products/diacc/mic/03_products/3-1.html If you have specific questions or need additional details that are not available on the web, you can reach out to Sony directly. You can contact them by phone at 239-245-6356 Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 9 PM EST. You can also contact them through live chat, by email, or look for information through their community forum. Here is a link to their support page for electronics which has all of the contact information: http://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=di

Q: 2. Is this a good option for a road trip/trekking? where i'd like to capture well the sound of the ambience, the voice of the people in front and my voice while i'm holding the camera.

A: Hi Joaqin, yes. This mic is very versatile. It can be used in most situations. -Anthony. -Anthony

Q: 3. Is this mic compatible with the SLT-A99?

A: Yes it is. The A99 has a multi-interface hot shoe and can use all of Sony's audio accessories that are compatible with a multi-interface shoe like the ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone.

Q: 4. How far from the subject this mic can record with quality? Is it good for advertising production?

A: Lots of variables here, but generally you should be within a couple of feet of the sound source - less if it is a noisy environment. This is more an aspect of proper location sound technique in general, rather than the quality of this particular mic. This mic is capable of very good quality sound, but even the most expensive mic will sound terrible if it is 10 ft from the subject.

Q: 5. Will this mic work on a NEX 7? Thanks.

A: The ECM-XYST1M will not work on a NEX 7 camera. You will instead want the Sony ECMALST1 Compact Stereo Mic: http://bhpho.to/1njmsSr

Q: 6. Is there any way to monitor the audio during the recording? On cameras that do not have listen port?

A: This microphone has no headphone monitoring capabilities.

Q: 7. How well does it work recording live music at a concert, will it pick up the bass? The built in mic in my a58 does a good job, but you can't hear the bass guitar

Q: 8. Sony np Fw50 lithium battery

A: Unfortunately, I do not know what you need, as there is no question listed above. If you are inquiring about using the Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery with the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone, then no, it is not compatible. The Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone does not need its own battery. It receives power via the Multi-Interface Hot Shoe on your camera.

Q: 9. Will it work with the NEX-5T (I have not been able to find any info regarding the difference between the 5T and 6 in regards to the accessory port).

A: Unfortunately, this microphone will not work with the Sony NEX 5T as it lacks the Multi-Interface Shoe that the Sony NEX 6 has.

Q: 10. Will the mounting shoe fit the Sony HDR SR 11 camera

A: Unfortunately this mic is not compatible with this camera. It works with the Sony Multi-Interface Shoe only.
