Designed to block both ultraviolet and infrared spectra, while allowing visible light to cleanly pass, the Formatt-Hitech 67mm Firecrest SuperSlim UV IR Cut Filter is a specialty filter that helps to achieve accurate and precise colors with digital sensors. This unique filter also features a 15-layer Firecrest coating, which further serves to minimize surface reflections and maintain light transmission for consistent color accuracy and image acuity.

Due to sensors' increased sensitivity to infrared light, false colors can occur when photographing in difficult lighting conditions. This filter helps to only pass visible wavelengths in order to avoid unwanted color shifts for greater color accuracy and image clarity. This filter is constructed from optical glass for maintained image quality and is set in an aluminum filter ring. The SuperSlim ring measures 5.5mm-thick and its slim design helps to minimize the likelihood of vignetting. This filter features front threads to permit stacking of additional filters or the attachment of a lens cap.

UV IR cut filter blocks wavelengths at both sides of the visible spectrum in order to achieve a more pure transmittance and greater color accuracy.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multi-coating is water- and scratch-resistance for greater overall durability.

Firecrest coating attenuates UV and IR contamination, as well as surface reflections, for consistent light transmission and acuity.

Optical glass is used in order to maintain clear image quality with high contrast and color fidelity.

The aluminum alloy SuperSlim filter ring measures 5.5mm-thick and features front threads for stacking additional filters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone combined a Hoya 77mm uv and ir cut filter with a circular polarizer on a 24-105 canon l series is lens using a 5D Mark III, if you have what were the results? Thank you very much before I buy the pair of filters.

A: We are not aware of any issues that combo would create.

Q: 2. Hello. Does this filter have the same difficulty with wide-angle lenses that most multi-coated cut filters have? I.e., inconsistent, off-axis effectiveness/banding beyond ~ 60 degree FOV. Thanks in advance!

A: Yes, this Ice 77mm UV/IR Cut Filter has the same wide angle issues many filters have. The IR filtration makes no difference, as far as the wide angle effectiveness goes.

Q: 3. Can I use this circular filter placed on my lens and carry on a mattebox with square ND filters to avoid IR input? Or will it be better to buy square IRND filters for mattebox? I have little budget and I don't know what a better option.

A: If the mattebox fits on the camera lens with filter in place you could do it that way.

Q: 4. What is the IR cutoff? What wavelengths does the filter actually allow to pass through?

A: The Ice 77mm UV/IR Cut Filter cuts out UV Rays below 390nm, and cuts out IR Rays above 750nm. The filter has 99.4% light transmission between 400-700nm.

Q: 5. Has anyone tried this on a full spectrum camera? I have a Nikon D7000 that’s converted to full spectrum and I’m looking for a filter to revert it back to visible spectrum when the need arises. Looking to see how the results are before I pull the trigger.

A: Unfortunately, we're not aware of any tests that have been performed with this particular filter on a camera which has been converted for full spectrum use. Your results may vary.

Q: 6. Hello, I've read a review telling that when using a UV/IR filter on WIDE Angle Lenses the image can be compromised: the interference varies with the angle of incidence of the light on the glass. This renders this filter unusable with wide-angle and even normal focal lenses, resulting in a greenish gradient from the center to the corners. - This was posted for the 72mm version of another brand's filterQ: Has someone else experienced this problem on Full Frame or APS-C DSLRs with Wide Angle Lenses like 16mm ?Thank you very much in advance!

A: UV/IR blocking filters work ideally for lenses with an aperture angle up to 60. The principle of such an interference filter is an aperture angle-dependent color influence that is dictated by physical principles, and as the angle of the incident light increases it drifts towards blue, i.e. for wide-angle lenses, from an aperture angle larger than 60, the color reproduction at the edge of the image tends to lean towards bluish.

Q: 7. Does ir cut only serve to reduce red from sunlight or is this also necessary in artifificial light like LED?

A: LED white lights typically remove unused spectrums to save on power so the difference under artificial light should be minimal. The largest gains will be under sunlight and UV/IR specific lighting. Unless the camera is full spectrum modified you will likely see very little difference under any light but almost none under modern artificial lighting. I would not buy an IR cut filter unless the camera is full spectrum modified as your camera already has one built in and UV filters are much less expensive. HTH.

Q: 8. Hi, does this filter have threads in both sides to allow stacking another filter (or cap) over it? Thanks!

A: Yes, It's 77mm on both sides allowing for additional filters or a 77mm lens cap to be placed on top.

Q: 9. Can this filter be used with a VND filter to cut the IR ? Would you put this filter first on your lens or on top of all others?

A: Yes, filters are stackable on the Ice 82mm UV/IR Cut Filter as long as they are 82mm in diameter.

Q: 10. Does this exhibit any tinting at wide angles? (I have a Heliopan UV/IR cut filter which (as advertised) starts to tint green at wider angles (at 24mm & wider).)

A: Unfortunately it does at wide open, almost always, however even zooming in slightly removes the vignetting, I have two of them, I only use it on the Canon 70-200 it is not suitable on my 24-70, the real problem is the vignetting doesn't show up in the viewfinder or live view

Purchased for use on a full-spectrum converted Nikon D70 to restore a 'normal' shooting mode. Works phenomenally.

I use my cameras in a workshop environment. UV filters are just the protection my expensive lenses need to avoid damaging the lens in the hash environment.

If you have a BMPCC 4K camera, you will need a UV and IR cut filter, the 77mm fits, but the 82mm does not.

This filter has greatly enhanced my photos of the night sky. I use a Canon EOS 6D Mark II that has a full spectrum modification and this filter helps reduce the red spectrum which makes the picture look more natural.

The filter works well, but the delivery was a week later than promised! I received it 2 days before I left Seattle so all photo shoots were cancelled

I purchased this filter to photograph the 2024 eclipse. It seemed to work well in combination with a solar filter. I will definitely use this filter to photograph some sunsets.

The BMPCC 4k's color is a little off because of IR, this fixes it to make it PERFECT.

I got this filter because my results on my Canon 400mm 5.6 with a Hoya HMC 77 UV(O) were drab. With this new filter I have brilliant color and contrast and can enjoy vivid pictures. I am happy with this purchase.
