The Countryman E6s Omnidirectional Microphone is a miniature earset microphone for virtually invisible operation. The compact size and placement just in front of the ear make this microphone particularly well-suited for intimate theater and broadcast applications, or any use where low mic visibility is a key factor.

The omnidirectional pickup pattern provides a generous and forgiving pickup area around the perimeter of the capsule, while the stainless steel construction stands up to daily use, makeup, and sweat. The mic also comes with 3 different interchangeable caps that let you choose between a flat, bright, or very bright frequency response.

This version of the E6s is tan and comes with a 2mm diameter Duramax cable. It terminates to a 1/8" (3.5mm) Locking Mini connector for use with Sennheiser wireless transmitters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this be compatible with the Panasonic DMW-XLR2 XLR Microphone Adapter, or is there a better choice?

A: The Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (2nd Generation) will work with the Panasonic DMW-XLR2 XLR Microphone Adapter via its 3.5mm stereo input jack or via XLR when using an adapter such as the RODE VXLR 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter (B&H # ROVXLR). However, to gain the benefit of the Panasonic adapter's balanced audio, we recommend using an XLR shotgun microphone like the Azden SGM-250CX Short Shotgun Microphone (Shockmount, Phantom Only), which is B&H # AZSGM250CX.

Q: 2. Is it able to use phantom power when plugged into XLR and avoid using battery power?

A: The Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (2nd Generation) uses AAA batteries as its power source as opposed to plug-in power through its input connection. While phantom power could be converted to plug-in power using an adapter such as the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter (BH #ROVXLRP), this would only trigger the MKE 400's auto on/off function but would not power the microphone without batteries.

Q: 3. What is the best xlr cable for using this on the Sony FX3?

A: The Sony FX3 does not come with an XLR input, so you would need an XLR audio handle or adapter. Assuming this is already taken care of, you can use any 3-pin XLR cable with the Sennheiser MKH416. A right-angle cable such as BH #KOM3001.5R would minimize the footprint of your rig, and a low-profile cable such as BH #CACTLPXR10BL would minimize it further.

Q: 4. What is the difference between the first and second generation of this product?

A: The Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (2nd Generation), B&H # SEMKE400M, now has upgraded features over the first-generation microphone: Along with its redesigned appearance, the second-generation MKE 400 boasts significant upgrades (listed below) over the original MKE 400 to make it even more effective and versatile: - Swappable 3.5mm TRS and TRRS output cables - 3.5mm headphone port with volume control - 3-stage gain control (the original MKE 400 had two gain positions) - Auto-power function - Integrated wind protection - Furry windshield included for outdoor wind protection - Compatible with Sennheiser's CL 35 USB-C cable (available separately) for direct digital connection to a mobile device's USB Type-C port: B&H # SECL35USBC

Q: 5. One of the common complaints about the original "Gen 1" MKE400 was sometimes white noise from the mic preamp. Does the electronics on the current Gen 2?) MKE400 solve that problem?

A: Yes, the updated design of the Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (2nd Generation) addresses noise issues found in the first generation model.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with a Sony FDR AX100 camcorder?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the Sony FDR-AX100 Camcorder.

Q: 7. Is there a way to replace the cold shoe mount on the mic? Mines broke off and I don't want to pay $165 for sennheiser to fix it.

A: There is no way to easily replace a broken cold shoe mount on the Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (2nd Generation). Spare parts aren't available for this piece of the microphone.

Q: 8. Is there a softie designed for this shotgun? I’m looking for this to be my main run and gun due to the smaller size but a softie is a must.

A: Rycote 12cm Super-Softie Wind Shield for Shotgun Mics B&H # RYSS12M

Q: 9. How long is the boom pole in this kit?

A: Minimum Length2.7' (79.0 cm)Maximum Length8.9' (271.3 cm)Weight1.5 lb

Q: 10. Would I be able to mount this on a mini-tripod and use at my desk for podcasts?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKE 400 Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (2nd Generation) can be mounted to any mini tripod with a 1/4"-20 thread.
