The 50mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC Lens for Canon EF Mount from Rokinon offers a standard 50mm focal length in the full frame format and a very fast f/1.4 maximum aperture for effective low light shooting, fast shutter speed capture, and shallow depth of field control. When used on cameras with an APS-C format sensor its 35mm focal length equivalence is 80mm.

The optical design of the lens consists of 9 elements in 6 groups, including one hybrid aspherical element and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberrations. Also, lens elements are coated with an Ultra Multi-Coating to improve light transmission and minimize flare and ghosting. Eight diaphragm blades create a circular aperture for more attractive out-of-focus highlights.

As a manual focus and manual aperture lens, it provides a rubberized focus ring and clear aperture, distance and depth of field markings. Its internal focus system will not extend the length of the lens while focusing and an included petal shape lens hood blocks unwanted light and protects the lens.

A: Focus peaking will definitely work, as this is built into the camera, not the lens. You will not get full exif data, since there is nothing to tell the camera what lens you are using.I've used this lens on both my NEX-7 as well as my a7 and it works great, as long as you are comfortable with manual focus.

I used this lens for photographing the Milky Way on a Sony a6000. Stopped down to f/2.0 this lens has minute coma and excellent quality. The output is very clear and I have been able to get my most detailed photos of the stars with this lens. This lens is compatible with both APS-C and full size sensors on the Sony E-Mount system which is great for future upgrades. For a small mirrorless camera this lens can be quite large and a little heavy. A strong tripod with a good mounting system is required to keep the camera from tipping forward. The medium format (for APS-C sensors) makes this lens great for night panoramas and photo stitching. Overall this is a great lens that I will be using for a long time.

I have used this lens on both a D3s and D800. It performs perfectly on the D3s, tack sharp at f1.4, and when it's not, it's my fault. On the D800 it's a bit hazy at 100% at f1.4, but by f2 it's excellent. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I'm using this for video on my t3i. Rokinon has quickly become my favorite company thus far. Out of my 5 lenses (2 rokinon) this is by far my favorite lens to use. The the crop sensor t3i this is the perfect all around lens. As most I started off with the cheap canon 50mm 1.8.... which I loved, till I used the rokinon 35mm 1.4. I use this lens mainly for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The low light performance is amazing! I don't understand technically how it works, but I wish 1.8 was an optional fstop on the lens, instead it goes from 1.4 to 2.0. The build quality of the rokinon lenses are amazing! Nice heavy feel, metal construction. The focus ring is butter, tight, yet soooo smooth!! I often shoot with the Canon 17-55 2.8 (almost three times the price) and the rokinon feels soooo much better to use, makes the Canon feel like a toy Video quality has been great, even inside club setting at 1.4 and ISO 800. Just remember rokinon is manual focus ONLY! I use it for photos occasionally, pics come out amazing.... Super nice bokeh, but I wouldn't recommend if you shoot any moving subjects. For video you really have to know how to pull focus, especially below 2.8 Bottom line... For video, BUY THIS LENS!!!

I've only had this a couple weeks and it's already my favorite lens. I'm using a Canon 60D, and had been using a 50mm 1.8 cheapo..this is obviously a much higher quality lens, and it shows. Oh and I chose free shipping and it still made it to me in two days.

Let me start off by saying that I have used this lens on a Canon T3i which has a crop factor of 1.6. I am currently going to school for film, and this lens is easily my go to lens for filming. This is a bright lens, and completely manual. This makes it wonderful for filming purposes. I consider this to be my cinematic lens, as it is equivilent to about a 50mm on my Canon T3i, and produces super sharp and accurate images. On a 1.6 crop sensor if is about a 50mm lens which is a great focal length for any shoot, which is why I find myself using it 90 percent of the time. With the manual apeture ring, I can dial in all my setting quick and easily. No pushing buttons on my camera, plus being able to de-click the lens allows for quick on the go apeture changes. This lens is also great for street photography, or any photography for that matter. The lens is a great focal length, not to wide and not too telephoto. Plus the depth of field scale on the lens allows you to prefocus before pointing your camera at your subject...a very big positive for street photography! The depth of field scale also helps with film as well, but usually you will have time to focus anyways. With that being said, you have to realize that this lens is a fully manual lens! For some, like me and other filmakers, this is a big positive. However, if you are not comfortable with fully manual and no autofucus then that could be more of a negative for you. So keep that fact, your skill level and comfort level in mind when looking at this lens. Over all this is a great lens, and I used it about 90 percent of the time when I was filming a short film which took place both indoors and out doors. If you are looking for a professional quality prime lens, this has to be in your bag or on your camera. I would buy it again, and I plan on buying more from Rokinon.

This lens blew me away. I couldn't believe the quality of image this thing produced, and the razor thin depth of field is a tool I never thought I'd enjoy so much. The focus and aperture rings are unbelievably smooth, and the build is very sturdy and impressive. If you don't mind the manual focus this lens is a must have.
