The Altman Focusing Cyc is a lightweight, compact quartz-halogen hanging or floor mounted fixture. It provides an even wash of light on cycloramas and backdrops, but it can also be used as a multi-purpose flood/fill light for stage and studio lighting applications.

The Focusing Cyc has innovative details and features that enhance its versatility, efficiency, and performance. With a wide range of non-proprietary bulbs (available separately) of varying wattage, length, and width to choose from, the versatile Focusing Cyc can easily replace a multitude of standard light fixtures.

With a 1500W FDB bulb burning horizontally, this light will provide a 26 footcandles beam of light 66 feet in diameter from 25 feet.

The housing has a pair of rugged tool-free spring-latches which allow multiple units to be safely locked together in a number of ways: a straight row, curved horizontally, curved vertically, or any combination of the three.

The convenient, fold-down carry handle doubles as a loop for a safety cable, and the heat resistant non-skid feet are height adjustable. This eliminates the need for floor trunnions for most ground cyc applications.

The optional filter frame holder is hinged and removable without the use of tools.

A wide selection of yokes and other hanging hardware are also available to accommodate virtually all sky cyc mounting configurations.

Adjustable lampholders allow the fixture to accept T-3 to T-8 lamps of three different lengths: 4-11/16", 5-5/8" and 6-9/16".

Each compartment has a highly polished, peened reflector that pivots about the bulb for precision focusing, and a heat resistant knob with indexed position markings is located on the rear of the housing for adjusting and locking the reflector into position.

An optional accessory for the Focusing Cyc is a unique clip that safely secures stripped glass color frames.

The super thin safety screen is designed to allow maximum light output, and is readily removable for easy access to the bulb for quick installation and replacement.

Q: 1. Does the boom pole come with a cord and can i attach my rode video mic pro to it?

A: The Rode Micro Boom Pole does not come with a cable. Yes you can attach your Rode Video Mic Pro to the the Micro Boom Pole. Turn the mic upside down and look at the bottom of the shoe there will be a 3/8 threaded hole in the bottom. On the end of the boom pole is a 3/8 threaded stud. Just screw the Rode mic onto the end of the boom pole.

Q: 2. Is this boom pole compatible with 3/8 - 16 thread?

A: The Micro Boom pole from Rode features a 3/8 - 16 threading.

Q: 3. is the bowens mount adapter included?

A: As per the manufacturer, a Bowens S mount adapter is included with the Aputure Light Storm SL 60x Bi-Color LED Light.

Q: 4. Does this work with the shoe mount included with the Azden SGM-250?

A: The shock mount on the Azden is open so its possible it could fall from the boom pole. I would prefer a more secure shock mount. Like the B&H # AUDUSM1.

Q: 5. How wide is the diameter of the largest section? What are the length increments of each section?

A: The largest section of the Slik "The Pro Pod" 4-Section Monopod has a diameter of 36mm. All sections are of roughly equal length.

Q: 6. Will this fit Panasonic GH3 micro four thirds lens? If not, what size mm would I need?

A: There are many, many lenses that can work on a Micro Four Thirds camera so we cannot say this handle can work on your lens. However, all you must do is measure the diameter of your lens and match it to the appropreate one manufacturered by Sunwayfoto. A: I should think so.

A: Yes this boom pole threading is directly compatible with the RM5 mic clip that comes with Rode NTG1, NTG2, NTG3, NTG4 & NTG5 models.

Q: 9. Do the sections twist to lock into place or do they need to be extended fully to lock?

A: Lightweight and precision balanced, the anodized aluminum pole features intuitive twist locks for smooth extension an adjustment. The locks work at intermediate lengths without the pole being fully extended.

Q: 10. How quickly does it lose its grip when it comes to locking in place?

A: With normal use it should not lose its ability to lock in place.

Using this handle on a manual focus lens like the 17.5mm Voigtlander Nokton on MFT makes rack and follow focusing a breeze. In situations that require manual focus pulling this is a great low budget alternative to a hefty follow focus rig. It's very sturdy aluminum, but using it with an all metal lens will require that you line the inside diameter with gaffer's tape or use a rubber band on the lens so that it won't scratch the surface paint. The handle is also lightweight enough so that gravity will not drag the focus ring down once it is placed in position. Aesthetic wise, it is brilliant and professional. It's a must have tool for manual lens filmmakers! 5

I use this on the kit 18-55mm lens of a Sony A57. The lens's focusing ring is a narrow rubberized wheel, and this focusing handle makes it easy to focus manually. The handle is adjustable, but the adjustment is by means of a screw pushing into a pivoted section of the ring. If the lens is smaller than the maximum size, one end of the pivot will push into the rubber around the lens focus ring. The focusing handle is light and feels well made. Unlike similar devices made of silicone or rubber solutions (which I have also tried) it allows a very precise control over the movement of the focus ring. 5

This has pretty much replaced my follow-focus, especially when I need to travel light and setup quick! Quality made and easy to attach and remove. 5

This is a very high quality, well made essential piece of equipment. That was clearly evident after opening the box and holding it the first timeit just feels great. In most situations, you don't really need a follow focus, and that's exactly where this comes in handy. You can still execute perfect focus without touching your lens. In fact, I'd say this actually makes the camera easier to use. I will never shoot anything without it now! When you order one and you're uncertain of what size to get, don't go by the focal length of your lens, and don't measure the circumference of your focus ring. You will end up with the wrong size (like I did). Measure the height of your focus ring. I actually had to send the first one back as it was much, much too big. I ordered this one as my replacement and it's absolutely perfect. An amazing, high quality, well made device. Love it! 5
