The AL-MAGPIE Wireless Infrared Microphone/Transmitter by Atlas Sound is for capturing audio in sound reinforcement. It is designed for use in higher education facilities, or where a room constrained public address systems is required. When used in conjunction with the AL-2430 amplifier/receiver (sold separately), it allows the teacher and students to walk freely around the room with the infrared microphones/system control units, and project their voices through installed speakers.

The AL-MAGPIE microphone performs the functions of a wireless microphone and a system remote control. Each wireless microphone has a volume control for adjusting the volume of that microphone relative to the user's voice allowing it to be adjusted up or down so that the speaker can be clearly heard and understood. Each AL-MAGPIE can be set to either A or B. One AL-MAGPIE must be set to Channel A and the other AL-MAGPIE must be set to Channel B. The MAGPIE includes Mode, Volume, and Panic controls that are fully functional in teacher mode, but will be locked out when configured for student mode. A rechargeable battery is included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are these units rack mountable?

A: This system cannot accommodate rack ears but could be used in a rack configuration with rack shelves: Raxxess - 1U Universal Shelf (Black) B&H# RAUNS1

Q: 2. What is the voltage?

A: Atlas Sound does not provide this specification, but this LED lamp works from the XLR phantom power output so it is 48 V or less.

Q: 3. What mixer/amplifer and what size outdoor speakers would be recommended to use with this system?

A: The Fender Passport EVENT would work very well with your VocoPro VHF-3005. See attachment.

Q: 4. What's the difference between the (CH: H) and the (CH: J) models?

A: The CAD is a dual channel system with fixed frequency meaning each channel utilizes a set frequency to communicate. CAD offers systems set to different frequencies ( CH:H and CH:J ) in order to be able to use both systems simultaneously in the same location without interference or crosstalk. Other than the factory set operating frequencies the systems are functionally identical.

Q: 5. what is the voltage on the Atlas Sound atlas power 16"gooseneck led lamp?

Q: 8. Good Option for loud and large crowds, like in a school cafeteria?

A: Yes, the VocoPro UHF-3205-10 UHF Dual-Channel Rechargeable Wireless Microphone System could be used in a school cafeteria setting. This system has a specified maximum operational distance of 197 feet or 60 meters, but reception can be affected by obstructions in between the transmitter and receiver, including bodies. When paired with a robust speaker PA system, this could work well for loud and large crowds as described. The wireless microphone system does not amplify itself.

Q: 9. I have read the two reviews of this item. It appears they the threading is of a very close tolerance. As far as I'm concerned that is a good attribute. My question concerns the locking mechanism itself; i.e., part A tolerance to part B. If you have already bought this and have had it in service for some while, I'm asking if the joint is solid and without any free play of tolerance. Yes, I have an Atlas MS20C. It would be much nicer to have a quick connect between the shaft and base because as we all know, it is typical to separate the two pieces during transport. Also, I'm know from experience that hasty and often assembly / disassembly of the base from the shaft invites the risk of stripping threads. On paper, this device looks very useful and I would definitely buy it if I only knew that it has a very solid fit between the halves with no wobble at all. Thank you very much.

A: Atlas as you well know makes excellent products. I cannot guarantee the QR-2 will not have some play to it. As the connection is not a thread its ball bearing.

Q: 10. Will the base on this stand accept the Atlas wheels (three casters on arms)?

A: Looks like it should. Try contacting Atlas direct. Maybe they can help you be certain of compatibility. Sorry couldn't be more help.

Mechanical design and functionality take precedence over reduced cost of manufacturing. So much better cheap mic stands.

It’s great having a mic stand that is not made out of lightweight tubing. I highly recommend it!

I was very impressed right away when this box arrived and I picked it up and felt how heavy it was. There is some real weight to this stand. After unpacking it- which I must add, it was really well packed- I put it together in about two minutes. First, this is no flimsy karaoke mic stand- this is a professional stand. It is very well made. It feels like solid metal all the way through. And the base is heavy- real heavy. This is not going to tip over unless you throw it to the ground. The base screws in very tightly with no wobble. The shaft extends taller than six feet, which is great for tall singers. The tightening screw on the shaft seems well constructed and holds the stand extension firmly in place. Overall, you just cannot do any better than this Atlas mic stand. I am a singer- I sing about three or four times a week, and I honestly cannot think of a single thing I would change about it.

As with my other Atlas products, this one is extremely well made, heavy-duty, and perfect for my home studio. The clutch on Atlas stands is really superior to just about anything else on the market, and it's a good looking stand with the low profile base. You need to be a bit cautious in screwing the pole into the base....it took several tries for me, and I wanted to make sure not to strip the threads. When I got it started correctly, it was just fine. All in all, a good purchase and well worth the money. As usual, great shipping and service from B & H.

After purchasing the ProGrade brand Dual Slot SD card reader this brand would not connect to my laptop using the usb-c cable. B&H said you most likely have a bad usb-c cable. After trying two PROGRADE card readers neither one of them would connect. After settling on the OWC dual slot SD card reader, I wish I would have made the OWC purchase from the start. OWC has a plug and play device that connects right out of the box. It's tethered usb-c cable tucks into a slot on the base of the unit so you never lose your connecting cable. Nicely engineered product! Plus it's $10.00 less than the PROGRADE brand. The OWC dual slot SD card reader is a solid purchase!

Although Atlas mic stands are no longer domestically produced, they are still a quality stand. The 10 cast iron base has the same threading as used in the mid-height stand, and the 7 adjustable desk stand. That allows one to use the standard low profile 10 base with an adjustable short column for mic'ing kick drums or to place on the dolly of a grand piano without fear of being easily tipped or knocked over. I note that replacement parts for the clutch are available, and the parts fit even decades-old Atlas stands. While the ebony (black) finish on the shaft can get a bit scuffed from rough handling, I generally prefer the non-reflective black finish to the reflective chrome plating that is available on the MS-12C version of the stand.
