A: It is an allen wrench that comes with the head, screws the quick release plate to the camera

A: I have not looked at the Gorilla Pod tripod, but the base on this ballhead is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. It is threaded for 3/8 x 16. I do not remember if a 3/8 to 1/4 inch adapter came in the box so if that is what the gorilla pod needs you will have to get that thread adapter.

Q: 5. Can we pan it sideways to take a panoramic picture?

A: It can be done but it's not ideal. When releasing the ballhead you will free horizontal but also vertical movements.

Q: 6. I can do that?- the center column becomes removable and reversible for a second method of achieving extremely low-angle shots.

A: Yes. The big wing nut comes off and reverses after you take out the center column.

A: If you are using a Nikon speedlight, you can use their little stand and screw the thing into the male stud.
