Tiffen 55mm Warm Pro-mist 2 Filter

The Tiffen 55mm Warm Pro-Mist 2 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while noticeably lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 2 density provides a moderate amount of contrast and highlight reduction and allows for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.
This filter also combines the diffusion effect with an 812 warming filter for providing a general warmth to the image and for improving skin tones. This warming effect also helps to reduce blue sensitivity and for cutting through overly cool tones within the scene.
Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. Is the focus ring on this lens throwable in the sense that it will give you some play from one focal point to the next? I have the Sony G 18-105 lens for my FS5 and the manual focus is terrible as it shifts from one focal plane to the next with very little movement. I'm going to be using this a a video lens so I need an old-school style of focus ring that isn't servo-based.
A: Not as well as what you would get from a lens that was designed for manual focusing. The 55/1.8 is really an outstanding lens, but designed for autofocusing. It's OK for manual focusing if you're using focus peaking, and plenty of time to make delicate little adjustments with the focus ring. But for your use case, which is video, I would suggest a lens like the Loxia 50mm f/2. There are also many excellent third party 50mm f/1.4 manual focus lenses that you could use with the Sony E-mount via adapters, if shallow DoF is important.
Q: 2. What’s the difference between a Sony Zeiss lens and Sony G master lens? Thank you Which is sharper?
A: Although Sony doesn't produce a 55mm prime lens in the G Master Series, the main difference would the built quality and the physical de-clicked aperture for those shooting video. Otherwise, both the Sony Zeiss and the Sony G Master lenses are very sharp.
Q: 3. Do you ship to Thailand ? Thanks
A: You may calculate your actual shipping options/order totals by adding the items you want to a shopping cart. It will then list the shipping options, descriptions, ETA's and fees to your location.
Q: 4. does this lens have image stabilization?
A: Hi Marjorie, no. This lens doesn't have a built-in optical steady shot (image stabilization). -Anthony
Q: 5. Does FX format mean it is optimized for FX and doesn't perform as well on full sensor cameras?
A: Hi, FX is the designation for full frame sensors for Nikon, the DX designation is the smaller sensor size for Nikon. I use my lens with a full frame (FX) sensor, it works great! It would also work great on a (DX)sensor camera as long as it is the Nikon F mount. On a DX sensor camera the lens would become roughly equivalent to an 82mm lens. Hope this Helps, Dave.
Q: 6. Am hearing grinding noise when adjusting the focus ring manually? has anyone experienced a similar issue? please listen at https://youtu.be/t59okOIDl1g
A: Sound like your lens has a alignment issue when it comes to manual focusing. We suggest sending the lens to be serviced to confirm and repair the issue.
Q: 7. I own a Canon EOS m50 crop sensor body and EOS mount adapter. I am still interested in buying this versatile lens (if not, then 24-70mm f/2.8), but still wish to know more information regarding cleaning a lens as I like to be as thorough as I can when understanding lenses, as a hobbyist. I’m very careful with handling my kit lenses and telephoto lens which are all weather sealed. Has anyone who owns this lens had any issues with dissembling and re-assembling it when cleaning it themselves, if any dust particles appeared? Several youtube videos showed how to disassemble and reassemble when cleaning the lens. Where I live there is a camera shop, but I highly doubt they’ll be able to fix a related issue or worse condition, “should” something arise or no repair parts. May request to send overseas for repairs, which will cost more money. Very curious. Thanks in advance.
A: I would highly recommend that you do NOT disassemble a lens. Putting it back together in the hopes that all the elements will be aligned properly is ill-advised, I would leave it to a professional to clean a lens if need be.
Q: 8. is this lens image stabilized?
A: The Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens does not have image stabilization.
Q: 9. Is this a clip-on hood that replaces the SH-551?
A: I bought this lens hood thinking that it was the SH-551 with a 55mm diameter to mount to a Tokina AT-X 90mm f/2.5 Macro. Unfortunately, it is much to wide to fit my Tokina and I'm still on the hunt for a SH-551.
Q: 10. Is this lens compatible with the Sony A6500?
A: Hello. Yes the FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA lens is compatible with the Sony a6500.
