The Azden FMX-42u is a portable 4-channel audio mixer with built-in A/D conversion and audio output via mini-USB for connection to smartphones, tablets, and computers. It is designed for professional and semi-professional field audio capturing.

The FMX-42u also features 4 balanced 3-pin XLR microphone inputs with individually switched +48V phantom power. A pair of balanced XLR outputs provide line or mic level (switchable) signal to cameras, recorders, etc. Additional features include a switchable input limiter to reduce the possibility of overload distortion, Left/Center/Right pan switches on all input channels, and enhanced circuitry for improved signal-to-noise ratio. The FMX-42u can be powered either by 6 AA batteries or an optional 12 VDC external power supply. A ballistic nylon carrying case is included.

Q: 3. Does the headphone out need a cell phone app or does it work without a cell phone?

A: Per Saramonic's manual, the output on this is for audio from the phone only. Most audio recording apps support monitoring, but many video recording apps do not. http://www.saramonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/SmartRig-user-manual.pdf For video, I would recommend considering filmic pro.

Q: 4. Will this fit the Tascam DR-70D?

A: Just based on the dimensions in the product's specs, yes it should physically fit inside the FMX-42C case. However, I cannot tell you how well you will be able to access inputs, outputs and controls. This case is specifically designed for the Azden FMX-42a and FMX-42u mixers.

Q: 5. Can I use this rig to connect an iPhone Xs to a mixing board to record a phone call?

A: SmartRig only has microphone inputs. A: To change the input level on the Saramonic SmartRig+ 2-Channel XLR Microphone Audio Mixer, simply turn the knobs labelled 1 and 2 until you achieve desired input level.

Q: 10. Will this case also fit the Azden FMX-32? The specific case for that one is not available at the moment.

A: This case will easily fit the smaller AZDEN FMX-32 microphone mixer.

I use it for mixing during deposition recordings. It is quick to set up. Easy to manage the levels. Built in 1khz tone. The slate mic means I don't have to set up another mic just for announcements. 5
