Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work on a c100mk ii or will there be some vignetting ?

A: Yes, this lens will work on the C100 Mark II. It covers APS-C/Super 35mm sized sensors, which the C100 Mark II has. There should not be any vignetting.

Q: 2. This lens is for a full frame? I have a 5dmk3.

A: Yes, this is an EF lens. It will work with a Full Frame camera and a Crop Sensor cameras.

Q: 3. how is this lens for Video ? any distortion ?

A: Yes....have used it quite a bit. This is one of the 3 XF lenses that has an option for good manual focus which is preferred for cinema style focus pulling. The other 2 are the 14mm and the 23mm 1.4.

Q: 4. going to Alaska would this be a good lens?

A: It depends on what kind of photography you're doing in Alaska. This lens is great for landscape photos but not great for photographing wildlife.

Q: 5. Does this lens have manual focus override? Or is it a fly by wire 'manual' focus?

A: That large ring you see is a focus ring. You click back toward the camera to enter manual focus mode. (A clutch system.) Also, when in manual mode the barrel displays distance and depth-of-field scales.

Q: 6. Will this hood vignette on the Fuji XF 16mm lens?

A: The hood that comes with the lens works fine. Fuji also sells a premium hood designed for the 16mm f1.4 lens which is lower profile, made of metal, accommodates a filter, also doesn't vignette, looks great and costs a lot.

Q: 7. Can I use this to an E-mount camera? If not, is there any adapter for this lens to fit in an E-mount camera?

A: There are some cameras that have adapters that will allow a fuji lens to fit, check out that

Q: 8. Is this lens still made in Japan?

A: Yes

Q: 9. If you already owned the 10-24 f4, do you think springing for another $1000 lens that sits in the middle of this focal range is justifiable? Asking the question another way: is the step up from the 10-24 that substantial?

A: I own and love both, the 10-24 definetly gets used more as a wide angle lens great for landscape and architecture but is very difficult to use in dark situations, the 16 1.4 is amazing, focuses fast, bokeh is beautiful, amazing at night and it's super sharp, definetly a keeper for me along with the 35 1.4, 56 1.2 & the 23 1.4. hard to compare these two lenses as I use them both in very different situations, either way both lenses are superb but I'm partial to fast prime lenses rather than zooms, I recently bought a rokinon 12mm f2.0 and gave my 10-24 to my gf, the rokinon is manual focus but At this focal length I'm shooting focused at infinity anyways, it is sharp, wide, shoots great in dark situations and is really affordable.

Q: 10. what does it mean by (35mm equivalent) ?

A: The Fujifilm X series of camera utilizes a smaller APS-C-sized sensor, sometimes referred to as a crop-sensor. What it means is that the focal length given on an XF lens has to be multiplied by 1.5 due to the APS-C sensor, so 16 x 1.5 = 24mm if you were shooting with the larger (full-frame) sensor. Fujifilm does not currently offer a full-frame sensor in their mirrorless line of cameras/lenses. Hope that helps.

So I recently received this lens just before Christmas. I purchased this lens based on the reviews I saw online and via YouTube. So far the lens has exceeded my expectations completely. The close focusing abilities have made this my go to lens for pictures of the family (twins the most recent addition). The lens is a little on the larger size compared to the more compact 16mm f2.8, therefore placing it close to my Children’s face has been challenging. I thought I loved the 23mm f1.4 but I can see myself using this lens a lot more than the 23mm. The field of view created with this lens has blown me away. This paired with my X-T3 I can see being my One Camera, One Lens, system for the New Year. Thanks B&H for timely delivery as well.

I usually shoot wildlife with telephoto lenses, and wanted a new lens to challenge my way of seeing. I watched every YouTube video that I could find on this 16mm f1.4 lens. So many photographers had great things to say about it and said it was their favorite lens, even though it can be a challenge to shoot with (since it is a wider angle lens it takes practice to get good shots since so much is included in the frame). Well I have had this lens for a few weeks and I absolutely love it! It's all I wanted in a new lens: wide angle; focuses really close-up; 1.4 aperture; and it is challenging me to see differently.

I been looking into wide angle lens and there are few ones from Fuji that I was looking into. Having to own quite few lenses from Fuji, this lens and my 50-140mm is my every carry. I love the focus ring on this, I love the sliding action! Not as sharp compared to my other lenses but I believe this makes up with its other features. You can seriously get up closed and personal with this lens. The auto focus doesnt bother me. I think it works great but then again I use a lot of manual with this lens.

This lens is one of the reasons I returned to Fujifilm after taking a break from digitial photography. It’s sharp as a tack and renders colors and contrasts beautifully. I’ve found it to be very useful lens for documentary photography and environmental portraiture, I’ve taken it with me on some long trips in less-than-ideal weather and it has performed admirably. The close focus abilities and ƒ/1.4 aperture make the lens particularly versatile in ways other wides are not. For these reasons, it rarely comes off my camera.

I do have a few caveats to this praise... This lens is heavy, enough that I often bring the much smaller (and inferior) 18mm ƒ/2 lens whenever must pare down my kit to be as light as possible. The lens is also a poor choice for video as the focusing motor is too loud to use with an on-camera mic, which is a shame as it renders such good images.

I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone who’s looking for a versatile, do-it-all stills lens.

Excellent.  Very pleased with the 23mm, but this is even better.  Crisp and clear.

Few months ago I purchased X-T3 with 16-80mm, and I have been happy with the system, even though the lens lacked the sharpness that I wished for (didn't expect a miracle from a zoom lens anyways). But this lens... OMG! Yes the price is high but the build quality is excellent (all metal solid) but the picture quality is also excellent. Sharp wide open at f1.4 but super sharp when stopped down just a little.

Great investment if you building a Fuji system.

My first impression was that this lens is smaller and lighter than I expected, which is great. It certainly is fast. It's a challenge shooting with it during the day wide open without an ND filter. I live out in a rural area and this lens is begging for some street photography, but I the wide-angle distortion worked great on a couple of horses. Oh, and it's brilliant for starry night pics, being 2 stops faster than your average f/2.8. Overall it's incredibly sharp, although the distortion is really noticeable in the corners. I can't wait to take it out on the street on my next trip to the big city. Only one niggle, really: manual focusing is touchy as you're not actually moving the lens with the ring, you're just actuating a motor that moves in discrete steps, and it sometimes likes to do its own thing. But it's not enough of a problem for me to knock a whole star off (I'd like to give it 4.5 stars).

This lens is amazing! I can't recommend this lens enough. I love the focal length. Perfect for those wide shots. It can be your emergency macro lens for those moments you want to get close up. The clutch focusing system is something you'll either learn to love or love already. My photos are sharp and my creativity is through the roof looking at the world through this 16mm f1.4. This really is one of the best, if not the best lens from Fujifilm (although it's been out for some time) If you're thinking about it...don't...you will thank yourself later for stepping up your game early on.

After shooting with my Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 exclusively for many months, I decided to get a wider lens to use for everything from landscape to mostly street to some portraits. It is definitely something I am not used to as it is a wide angle lens, but it is great. Pictures are sharp at 1.4 and works very well for night time. Plus it’s weather resistant so rain or snow, it doesn’t leave my xt3. I now use my Voigtlander for portraits, but everything else, i use the 16. I got it on sale for $750 and it is worth every penny. I highly recomend this to everybody because it is super versatile and can focus on something that is literally in the LENS HOOD. Af is nice but isn’t as quiet as the 18-55. It is wide and you really have to get close to fill the frame. Really happy that I got this over the 23f2 that I was thinking of getting.
