Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it possible to have 2 HDMI sources going into the V-1HD (1. Camera 2. Laptop Computer Screen Slide Presentation) and going out to my computer using OBS software to create a SPLIT SCREEN final recorded program? In other words, will the V-1HD Switcher allow me to send two sources as one Split Screen program to my computer?

A: The V-1HD does have split screen and picture-in-picture capabilities. However to bring the feed in to your computer for use with OBS you will need a capture device. The Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2 is a great choice for this, it is compatible with OBS. https://bhpho.to/2n9v5B3

Q: 2. Is it possible to use the Oddyssey 7q with this unit and is there a scaler available which will convert to 1080p 50 to match the rest of my gear?

A: I have not used Odyssey 7q with the Roland V1-HD, but I think with a good HDMI to SDI converter (Eg. Blackmagic design) it would work with the unit. The Roland V1-HD has 3 resolution, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, with 2 frame rate 50 and 59.99. So you probably don't need another converter to use 1080p50.

Q: 3. Hi, all can anyone confirm the el gato hd60s can sucessfuly recieve the signal from the roland V-1HD? thanks

A: This combination is unknown and untested. However we feel it should work.

Q: 4. Does this unit have a still store? How about fan noise, is there any?

A: The V-1HD does not have a still store feature. There is a fan but reportedly it is so quiet, mics do not hear it.

Q: 5. Does this do picture in picture - as in channel 1 HDMI in channel 2 HDMI ?

A: Yes it does. The Roland V-1HD does both Picture-in-Picture and Split Screen effects. You will be able to have HDMI Channel 1 inside HDMI Channel 2, and vice versa, using the PIP effect.

Q: 6. Two questions about the V1HD switcher...1) When would you ever use the freeze button on this thing? I'm trying to figure out what it does and why it has it's own button? And also, can it be changed to do something else?2) Can the PREVIEW output be changed somehow to just show the Preview clip? In other words, I know it is used to show the multi view, but can that be switched somehow to show something else like the Preview clip (for instance if I wanted to check focus on one particular camera before I cut to it), while the Program/OUTPUT has the main live feed output like normal? Thanks!

A: The freeze button is a common thing found on a production switcher. You may want to freeze on a moment and from there switch to a live feed, even the same camera now rolling live again. It is an effect that you may find useful. The button cannot be programmed to something else I'm afraid. The preview HDMI output can be set to either the Multi-viewer or a 2nd output for the program. It cannot be set as an ISO on a specific camera. The V1HD is designed to be a more basic, yet affordable option. You could look in to a more advanced switcher like the Datavideo SE-2200 that has multiple, assignable outputs. The SE-2200 will allow you to have a preview out.

Q: 7. I wish that the switcher had a designated Black button. How do you users feel about the twist to black set up? And WHY a twist to white ????

A: I agree, a rotary knob to fade to black (or white) on a HD switcher does not seem quite right. What I have done is mix to any unused input, which gives a nice smooth fade to a very solid black. Of course, if all 4 inputs are in use the only option is the knob.

Q: 8. Can a VGA to HDMI converter be used to connect a non HDMI computer to the Roland V-1HD?

A: Yup, input 4 have upscale compatibility.

Q: 9. Are audio inputs 1 & 2 a stereo pair or can they be individually eq'd and panned?

A: By default the audio inputs are controlled individually they can be assigned as a stereo pair if you wish.

Q: 10. I'm using a Canon XA10 (HDMI 1080P59.94) and two GoPros (1080P59.94) and a Ninja 2 as my recorder which needs to see 1080i59.94 ... will this switcher do that without extra scan converters in the mix?

A: Yes, the product will scale your footage and there is a switch that allows you to select the output, including 1080i.
