Capture quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the Rode NTG1 shotgun microphone. With low handling noise and the ability to endure loud sound sources before distortion, the NTG1 offers a cost-effective solution for recording clean dialogue and sound effects.

The NTG1's elevated sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG1 delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing selectable low-cut filter. The durable and lightweight high-grade aluminum housing is finished in hard-wearing epoxy paint to withstand the stress of location recording.

The combination of the NTG1's 8.6" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused front-facing directionality and enhanced attenuation of sound entering from the sides. Its low self-noise of 18 dBA and sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 24V or 48V phantom power, the NTG1 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

The NTG1 includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG1 in the Rode SM4-R shockmount or Rode PG2-R pistol grip (both available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations in boompole or handheld applications.

The NTG1 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How can I mount this on a stand with 5/8"-27 thread?

A: There are a ton of ways since it comes with a 3/8"-16 female and cold-shoe foot, but I guess the easiest way would be an adapter like this one: https://bhpho.to/3lat9qN

Q: 2. I am buying a shotgun mic for filmmaking & vlogging right now, but I will probably also record some music cover video in the future. Would this mic be a good choice for both intentions?

A: This is a solid all around mic. It will work very well for your intentions.

Q: 3. Does gain setting affect battery life?

A: No

Q: 4. Can you plug the TRRS directly into the Zoom H6 1/8" TRS line/mic input without any additional adapter?

A: According to Rode, the VideoMic NTG Hybrid has an auto-sensing TRRS output, which ensures compatibility with cameras, portable recorders, mobile devices, and computers — no adapters required.

Q: 5. Thinking of purchasing 2 of these for a podcast, host/guest style. Would these be compatible to connect to a zoom H4n, I’d likely would have to purchase an xlr adapter right?

A: That is correct.

Q: 6. My mic is not charging. Do you have to use the specific one they sent with mic to charge or will any micro usb cable work?

A: All my USB mini cables work for charging this unit. You may have a bad/broken cable connector ready for the landfill

Q: 7. Is this mic working with the mini stereo input of the c200? Thank U

A: Yes, it will.

Q: 8. Is there a case included with the mic?

A: No

Q: 9. Can you use trough a "power less" mixer or adapter such as the Saramonic SR-AX100, that do not have power, since the mic might think that it's not connected to anything...? Does it have to be connected "directly" into a powered camera?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone would work well through the Saramonic SR-AX100 Passive 2-Channel Audio Adapter for DSLR Cameras. The VideoMic NTG powers itself via battery and has an auto-sensing, switchable TRRS/TRS output connection.

Q: 10. How do I mount this to a BMPCC4K? I purchased a ProMediaGear 1/4"-20 Screw to Cold Shoe Adapter but it does not slide in still.

A: As far as I can tell, you have the right gear to make this work. If the lock-nut on the Microphone is open and you are still experiencing difficulties, perhaps something is damaged or bent (either on the mic or on the show adapter)?
