Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Android phone attached to the mix-minus. usb-c adapter to trrs?

A: You can use a basic adapter like the Comica Audio CVM-SPX-UC 3.5mm TRRS Female to USB Type-C Audio-Interface Cable for Android (B&H # COCVMSPXUC) to connect your Android phone to the mix-minus TRRS input. The L8 comes with a TRRS cable to use together with the USB-C adapter.

Q: 2. Can you link two of the mono tracks in the setup to have additional stereo inputs from the 2 that are on the L20?

A: Yes, you can use any of the individual mono input channels to connect instruments, mics or other devices in order to create a stereo input. For example, if you are using a stereo microphone or connecting a keyboard that has two separate outputs for left and right, you can certainly connect each output to a different individual mono input on the L-20.

Q: 3. What can be said about the clock accuracy on this unit? I own a Zoom R16 and have also worked with output from their other recorders. Loading to my NLE, there is always large drift over an hour recording (e.g. a full second+) I'm hoping this is better?

A: Thank you for your question. I spoke with Zoom directly and they do not have a measurement for clocking accuracy but they did say that the improvements over the R16 are vast and you should not have any noticeable drift

Q: 4. Does this console has clock?

A: If you are referring to a clock that tells time, then it does not.

Q: 5. Is there a click track?

A: Yes it has a built in metronome. You can activate it and alter it via the instructions on page 51 - 55 of the manual. https://www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_L-20_OperationManual.pdf

Q: 6. What is the model of compatible Kensington lock for the Zoom L8? Thanks!

A: As per Zoom Audio, the dimensions of the Kensington lock port on the back of the Zoom L8 is 9mm horizontal, 7.5mm vertical, depth is 9.5mm. In light of this, it would work just fine with a 5mm Kensington Lock.

Q: 7. When connected via USB for multitrack recording, does the USB also power the mixer, or do you have to use batteries when recording with USB?

A: This mixer/recorder can perform all functions while receiving power through USB.

Q: 8. How do you change master out xlr's from line to mic out or vise versa?

A: The Zoom LiveTrak L-8 Portable 8-Channel Digital Mixer and Multitrack Recorder's Master Out XLR connections are specified at Line Level and do not have an option to be changed to Mic Level. It does appear that the output level from the XLR connectors can be affected by the Master Fader, however.

Q: 9. Can you play a track and record on another at the same time?

A: Yes, the Zoom LiveTrak L-20 - 20-Input Digital Mixer & Multitrack Recorder is capable of file playback while also recording.

Q: 10. Does this have a built in metronome? can you quantize the audio as well to tighten up the tracks?

A: Yes to the metronome. The Livetrak records audio, not MIDI data, so you cannot quantize an audio waveform (that I know of) The unit is simply amazing and I use it to record podcasts on location as well as recording bands. The trick is to make sure your input levels are steady at 3/4 of the meter (VUFS) and do the final mixing in your DAW.
