The mic's specially engineered dynamic capsule provides a smooth, polished vocal sound with a rich response in the lower frequency registers, making the mic a favorite choice among broadcasters and podcasters.

It features a cardioid polar pattern, bass roll-off and midrange emphasis (presence boost) controls, and shielding against broadband interference. Internal air-suspension shock isolation helps to eliminate mechanical noise transmission, and a yoke mount facilitates mounting and provides precise control of the mic position.

This microphone is part of the B&H Virtual Mic Locker, an online tool to help our valued customers determine the sonic differences between popular microphones for podcasting and voice over work. Each microphone was recorded using a Grace Design M103 preamp into a Presonus Quantum 2626 interface.

Looking for pro-quality equipment with a starter budget...this is the preamp for you. This preamp was provided the perfect quality for the 'at-home' recording studio I needed, plus the guidance by the B&H staff, it was made it super easy to put my system together.

Clearly this microphone has some serious reputation. If you watch Youtube carefully, you can see this mic everywhere from vocal performances to radio broadcasters. A lot of people may be skeptical because of the price, but this microphone is a monster...so much power and ability. Matched with the right preamps and interfaces, this mic can put every mic in its price range to shame.

This mic is a no brainer to setup. All I did was just switch on the bass roll off to match the vocalist voice I was recording. The greatest thing about this mic is no matter how hard the vocalists sang there were no distortions. The voice was clear and uncolored. It is unbelievable that a mic for around this price point (300ish) can make such a difference to a track. Imagine I tested it out with an air conditioning unit on behind it and it rejected the noise from it. This is the amazing thing about this mic. Record in a noisy room and it would cancel out most of the unwanted sound. It is early days yet and I cannot complain. Buy this mic while they are still being manufactured. I am getting another one for my drum kit snare. It is heavy but no hassle. A little secret I have a UAD Apollo twin. I inserted the 610A preamp plugin on the console preamp insert slot and it had enough gain to spare. I could not believe what I heard. An elephant can use this mic.

B&H Microphone Testing · Shure SM7B

The flat-frequency response enhances the midrange and high frequencies that are associated with the human voice.

Improved rejection of electromagnetic hum—optimized for shielding against broadband interference emitted by computer monitors.

Internal air-suspension shock isolation virtually eliminates mechanical-noise transmission.

The detachable close-talk windscreen eliminates the need for any add-on protection against explosive breath sounds—even for close-up vocals or narration.

The classic cardioid pickup pattern is designed to reject off-axis audio, so you can sing or speak at a comfortable angle. And, it captures the sound with minimum coloration, isolating the signal source helps to reduce feedback issues.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the SM 57 microphone plug directly into my Canon HF 100 HD video camera with a 1/8 (3.5MM) cable?

A: The Shure SM57 can be connected to the 3.5mm input of a camera. For the best sound, it is recommended to use a combination of XLR cable, and specially designed XLR to 3.5mm adapter. The Kopul LMT100 will match the low impedance output of the mic to the high impedance input of the camera. a href= http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD/a

Q: 2. Can I connect this to my mac to use with garage band?

A: You will need an XLR to USB interface. Don't go with a cable, get an actual interface. Do a search for XLR to USB interface, M Audio makes some great products.

Q: 3. Use for Outdoor Nature Recording yes/no?

A: The SM57 is a dynamic microphone with a flat grill. This allows it to get up close to loud things, to capture those sounds without too much bleed from the environment. It's a classic choice for guitar amps, snare drums, and brass instruments. For recording ambient sounds, you would usually want stereo mics that are more sensitive to quieter sounds. There are many choices available for most sound recorders or cameras with a mic input.

Q: 4. does it work with the canon 5d mark II? what cable do i need for Shure SM57-LC Microphone to work with my 5d?

A: Not sure it depends on what type of audio inputs your camera has. The mic takes a standard xlr connector so it will probably have to be terminated at the other end with something compatible or adapted.

Q: 5. Will the device it pass supplied 48 V phantom power through to a microphone on the input?

A: The Cloudlifter Z Instrument/Mic Activator is not compatible with condenser microphones. The Cloudlifter itself does not pass phantom power, rather, it is powered by phantom power, and uses that to boost the output level of the connected mic or instrument. For condenser microphones that require phantom power, this is the most similar in-line preamp to use: https://bhpho.to/3jLSjQX

Q: 6. I just got this shire package, but how come it has a low output? i don't know what the problem is. I triple checked everything is plugged in right and my settings are fine. My preamp is a Behringer Eurorack UB1204-pro and I'm using logic pro.

A: Get a cloudlifter to boost the signal.

Q: 7. Is the earphone removable like the standard SE215 earphones?

A: Yes, all the SE In-ear series besides the SE112's have the MMCX connection detachable earphones. The item you have asked this question on is mostly purchased to swap out a broken in-ear.

Q: 8. I'm looking at the Cloudlifter CL-1, CL-2 (2-channel), the CL-4 (4-channel 1-up rackmount) and this CL-Z. I understand the value of a switchable high-pass filter (removing low-end rumble, etc.), but I don't understand the value of variable impedance, especially since the CL-Z appears to add a potentiometer to the signal path. Does the "knob" allow you to "tune" the mic to what sounds best to you? What are the physics behind the "Z"? Thanks for your help!

A: Each mic will have it's own resistance rating that will sound best. By being able to adjust it you can fine tune the Cloud Lifter to sound as best as it can with each mic, instead of a one size fits all option. You can also use it creatively to create sounds the mic normally would not be able to do.

Q: 9. My speaker is damaged. The slot where the jack is connected to the speaker securely has been ripped out. How can I repair the speaker?

A: You can contact JBL support for a service center near you. 800-336-4525

Q: 10. Will this connect to my individual mic or does it just connect to the system via Wi-Fi?

A: The Shure SE215-CL-Left Side Earphone Kit with IFB Cable is designed to make a hardwired connection to a 3.5mm (1/8") audio output source in the same manner as most other sets of hardwired headphones would connect to a headphone output connection on a device. This unit is not designed to connect to a microphone or connect wirelessly.
