Additionally, because it protrudes from the end of the lens, it offers some extra protection against minor impact. The hood is included with the lens and offered here as a spare or replacement part.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens weather sealed?

A: There is a seal at the mount but not throughout the lens.

Q: 2. Have the VR issues of this lens been completely fixed as of 10/2015? Can I be confident in purchasing this lens in that regard?

A: I am pleased with this 300mm lens. Shot the most recent SuperMoon handheld with a 1.4TC at 420mm, f5.6, ISO 400 and 1/250th of a second with VR on. Results were excellent. This morning I took several test shots from 1/60 - 1/250 of a second with perfect results - sharp focus. So, IMHO, yes, Nikon has completed due diligence and corrected any initial problems. BTW, with its form factor (size & weight) it is easily mistaken for the 24 - 70mm lens.

Q: 3. I am ready to buy this lens. When are you gong to match competition price? Specifically that company that starts with Ador You have the same price but they are offering 2% Rewards and your offering no rewards points.

A: Please email us directly at sales@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a with a link to the specified offer for price match requests and we will do our best to match with authorized retailers.

Q: 4. Hey i Will ask of the new nikon 300mm f4 is charger and better then the Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 on the Nikon d5500?

A: I do not have any experience with the 200-500 lens. I can tell you that the 300 is an excellent lens. It is sharp, small, and lightweight. It works well with a 1.7x or 2.0x teleconverter also. I believe it is significantly more expensive than the 200-500. Unless you have another longer lens, the 200-500 looks like a great value even though it is one stop slower. Good luck with your choice.

Q: 5. Will this lens work with the Nikon D700 camera? What, if any, are it's limitations with the D700?

A: I thought it worked quite well on my D700. I have quite a few pics with this combo on my Flickr page (skeptiq_1) if you would like to see the results.

Q: 6. Various reviews and write-ups have identified possible issues with the PF element handling background specular highlights (some sample images show red/green tinted spots). I frequently photograph waterfowl, so reflections off water cannot always be avoided. Is this truly an issue with the lens? Or are the reviewers just really good at setting up a worst case scenario?

A: The 300mm PF is a spectacular lens. I took it on a couple of trips to Trinidad and Ecuador and it was fantastic. It is sharp and light. I usually shoot with a 600mm f4 or a 400mm f2.8, and while the 300mm PF f4 is not quite in their league, it is very sharp. I have yet to encounter any problems with specular highlights. Buy the lens, for hand held with a crop body it is unbeatable. Oh, it takes the 1.4 TC III very well.

Q: 7. Will this lens be among those as recommended for use with the D800 body? If so, will it also be compatible with the TC-17E II

A: As this is a new pro-level telephoto prime, it should be more than suitable for the D800. The lens is compatible with the TC-17E II (including autofocus with the D800).

Q: 8. is this lens hood compatible with the nikon Af-S 300mm f/4D IF-ED? ( BH #NI3004DAFS )

A: No, the Nikon HB-73 Bayonet Lens Hood for AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR is not compatible with the nikon Af-S 300mm f/4D IF-ED lens. The one made for it is not available but these will screw in and work, https://bhpho.to/3DUM7g5.

Q: 9. Is this lens Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens B&H # NI3004E MF made in Japan?

A: Made in China

Q: 10. Would this combination work for bird photography?body: Nikon D750tele lens: Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VRwith teleconverter 14 III

A: I have had the Nikon AF-S 300mm F/4 PF VR lens for about 3 months. In mid-October I participated in a Glenn Bartley Photo Workshop in Costa-Rica. This is major bird photography. My primary lens for this trip was the 300mm f/4 PF VR and the Nikon AF-S 500 f/4 VR. My camera bodies are D7000 and D7100. These are cropped bodies which I believe are ideal for bird shooting. I previously had the 300mm f/4 non-VR but for hand held field work in dark locations (aka Costa Rica rainforest), I was too often disappointed. Always required tripod for a truly good shot. The new 300mm is incredibly light and small, and with the VR feature its fits the bill. The group of photographers I was with were all impressed with the size; they thought I was using a 200mm or less. And they all checked-out a few of my shots to see IQ. Everyone, including me, was impressed.Upon returning home from Costa Rica with over 5000 shots a few conclusions:- the Nikon 500mm can't be beat; incredibly sharp on good hits and good reach but ... I have to use a tripod and field work with the 500mm is not getting any easier. And remember it cost 4 to 5 times the new 300mm lens.- contrary to many reviews, I did not have any problems with the VR on the 300mm at lower shutter speeds- using the double 'Camera Slinger', I had my binoculars connected to my left shoulder strap and the camera with the 300mm on my right shoulder, and I could go all day like this with no problem.- the new 300mm worked fine with a X1.4 teleconverter, which I normally used.I believe the new Nikon 300mm f/4 PF VR should be on the top of anyone's list of birding lens; not the only lens you'll need, but it should be in your bag (or right shoulder strap).

The lens hood arrived in good shape. When I put it on my lens, it fit really snug. I'll have no problems with it falling off my lens.

This lens is amazing, the size and weight is just about half of it's predecessor and the sharpness is remarkable. I was lucky yo get one first time to be perfect, with no decentering problem which is pretty common with Nikon lenses. (Sometimes I had to send it back 2-3 times to get a good one but I got lucky this time.) I am extremely pleased with this lens which takes all the Nikon tele extenders real well with hardly any noticeable loss of sharpness wide open which just about disappears stopping it down to the next f/stop. Highly recommend this lens which is not a problem to carry around all the long even with the extenders.

This is a very compact, lightweight and sharp lens. It's lighter and smaller than my Oly 40-150 pro lens. I love it. Easy to carry and doesn't tire out my arm. Focusing is fast. Photos are sharp. Wish they made the 500mm in a fresnel lens. Photo taken with a Nikon D500, ISO 100, f.4, 1/1600, -0.67ev.
