Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Whilst I am confident of the durability of the case itself, is the foam enough padding to protect DSLRs and lens from rough handling at an airport? Eg if the case was thrown/dropped by baggage handlers, will camera bodies and lens be unaffected?

A: Yes this would protect the equipment inside very well, I would recommend leaving roughly 1-2 inches of foam around the outside just for peace of mind, but I have had no issues with any of my equipment being damaged with these rolling through airports.

Q: 2. Given the dimensions I plan to keep both Nikon 800mm and the Nikon 400mm f2.8 in the case. Will they both fit. To keep these two less should I go for this case or 1615 tp case

A: I would recommend the 1650 case.

Q: 3. I purchased this unit about a year ago. I use it to store my equipment. My question is as follows. The place where I keep the unit is on the other side of the wall of the bathroom. There are heating pipes not far away and they too are behind a wall and under the floor. The relative humidity is about 70% most of the time, and there is little air movement ( I have boxes near and around the pelican). I do not live in a very high humidity location (Canada), and I rarely open the storage unit. I also never take my equipment out in rainy or cold days and I wipe off the equipment with a towel and blow brush after each use. Do I risk mold and mildew on my equipment based upon the above noted information? I understand that that this pelican is air and water tight. Should I be concerned? Thanks.

A: There should be no issue with the gear inside the Pelican but you can also add silica gel to be certain.

Q: 4. I have a 1650 with the padded dividers and a foam lid. Are the dividers sufficient to pad camera bodies and lenses if I check the case when I fly?

A: Richard: My personal opinion is yes. That being said I also have each lens stored in a lens pouch (LensCoat brand) for added protection. Additionally, while I've flown with my equipment I've never checked it. I do have a 1510 which is carry-on approved and have flown with it. It's amazing how much you can pack in that case. I packed two Canon 5D MIIIs, two battery grips, 70-200, 85, 100, 24-70, & 16-35. Also had assorted other accessories in the case too. Hope my response is helpful.

Q: 5. can you lock it?

A: Yes, it is lockable. It has steel liners on the two locking locations. Remember to use a TSA approved lock if you fly with it. This case will last you your lifetime. I have 3 pelicans cases and they are great.

Q: 6. For the 1654 version with dividers, is there some foam at the bottom of the case? I guess I should ask, what is on the bottom of this case to cushion my lenses? Thank you for your help!

A: The bottom is padded. It's not foam but kind of a heavier padded divider.

Q: 7. will it hold a nikon 500mm or 600mm lens?

A: Sorry but we use canon. This is a large box. Canon 70-200 with hood fits cross ways.

Q: 8. Will it fit the Nikon 800 mm lens?

A: Yes, the Nikon 800mm will fit in the 1650 case.

Q: 9. What is the difference between the 1650NF and the regular 1650?

A: NF stands for no foam, the 1650 case comes with either dividers or foam.

Q: 10. Can someone PRETTY PLEASE give me the EXACT interior width and length dimensions of this case with the foam inserted? The interior dimensions listed only measure the interior of the hard copolymer shell. I want the interior dimensions (width & length) from the interior edge of the foam. Thank you for taking the time to do this!- Chris

A: Sure, with the TrekPak foam the internal dimensions are 486mm x 360mm. Like others have said you loose roughly 45mm x 30mm x 15mm either side at the bottom due to the wheels
