Q: 1. How to record the HDMI output in a computer to use it later with edius grass valley 6.55?

A: You can record the HDMI output using a capture device to record on your computer. I use Blackmagic's Shuttle Extreme and also UltraStudio Mini Recorder, but there are many others to choose from.

Q: 2. Can the SDI channel 1/2 accept analog SD SDI signal? We have PDW-510 which outputs analog SDI signals as well as PMW-200 which has HD-SDI output. We would then use 2 computer sources via HDMI ch 3/4If it can't are there any adapters out there to covert the signal? This device would serve our needs perfectly. Many thanks in advance!

A: The V-1SDI only accepts only HD (and not SD) signals. Specifically, the SDI inputs 1-3 accept 720/59.94p, 720/50p (SMPTE 296M), as well as 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 1080/59.94p, 1080/50p (SMPTE 274M).

Q: 3. Is the app for IPAD only or will it work with other tablets?

A: At this point they only have an APP for iOS for the V-1HD. You will not be able to control it with an Android Device. The V-1HD also has dedicated computer software for both Mac and PC, so you do have the option of controlling it with a computer as well.

Q: 4. I would like to use a c100 with the roland. I don't plan on inputting 24p from the c100. Is there any other compatibility or quality issue that I should be aware of? Has anyone tried this to see if it works and have any opinion to share? The issue is the c100 is non refundable and I would not be able to return it if it doesn't work.

A: The Roland V-1HD Portable 4 x HDMI Input Switcher will take the Canon C100 and C100 Mark II signals of 1080p or 1080i at 59.94 and 50 with no issue. It will not take 24 or 25p. That is because there is little call for switchers to do cinema frame rates.

Q: 5. hi there! does it work with the black magic pocket cinema camera hdmi output? Im thinking about webcast using my bmpcc...

A: Hi, when I was presented with this question from B&H, I fired up both my V-1HD and BMD Pocket Cinema camera with impression that it'll only work in 1080p mode. But surprisingly, both 1080p & 1080i modes work without issues.

Q: 6. Is there a way to incorporate a tally light system with this switcher?

A: This is a very basic switcher, have not seen any way for a tally light. If you are looking for a simple, economical switcher, this is a great option, if you want advanced controls or down keys, look elsewhere.

Q: 7. Will this video switch work with tripplehead2go input? We are Mac centric, and our display port output goes into the tripplehead2go multi-screen module, which outputs HDMI. This HDMI output works fine with monitors and such but would not pass through a certain video switch we tried (not Roland).

A: I've been using this unit a lot in the last 6 weeks. i can say this much, i have output working from anything i try. two different model iPads via their AV adapter cords. 5 different video cameras (four different models). My macbook pro. playback from a Ninja Blade. etc.. nothing has been flaky or un-accepted. In fact one of my Sony EX1r cameras won't work directly into either of my Ninja Blades. but if i simply run the camera through the V-1HD and straight back out it will work just fine with both Ninja Blades. My Roland V-40HD is also very accepting upon input and output. i'm happy with this unit except for trying to perform live titles as DSK via the units effects... tricky business... but it works.

Q: 8. What else do I need to stream from this gear?

A: To stream from the HDMI output on this switcher you could look in to HDMI Capture Device which will allow you to capture the signal for streaming in to your computer. The BMD UltraStudio Mini Recorder is a good option for people with a Mac that has a Thunderbolt connection. Magewell makes a very nice solution for PC/Mac users who have a USB 3.0 connection. The Magewell device is even backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Another solution is streaming devices that will allow you to send the signal directly to the web. The Teradek VidiU will allow you to send the signal to a variety of streaming services.

Q: 9. Does this switcher include the remote control software?

A: Yes it does. This switcher will include the V-1SDI RCS dedicated computer software, which is compatible for both Mac and PC.

Q: 10. I am looking for a device to superimpose / mix the inputs of multiple video sources at once. I see that the V-1HD has 4 HDMI inputs but from what I understand, only two can be blended into a single output at one time. Is this correct?

A: That would require a more advanced Production Switcher with multiple mixed effect buses. https://bhpho.to/3dNQHyN
