The Tiffen 127mm Warm Soft/FX 4 Filter can be applied to create a warm cast over an entire image while purposely reducing the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits, or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

The warming effect of this filter can be obtained under daylight when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed, or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected. This filter's overall coloration reflects a mired shift value of +45.

This filter has a grade of 4. Grades of 1/2, 1, 2, 3, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. Is there a way to mount a DSLR with lens and use the telescope as a tracking mount? If not, other suggestions? Thanks

A: This telescope out of the box already has a Motor & computer tracking. This is the camera adapter, Celestron SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter for the NexStar 4, C90 & C130 Spotting Scopes - Requires Camera-Specific T-Mount Adapter B&H # CETAC90 MFR # 93635-A Please call in to a sales agent for the exact T adapter that is also necessary.

Q: 2. What are the dimensions of the box/packing?

A: The manufacturer's original box dimensions are Ln: 30.50 Wd: 17.00 Ht: 8.60.

Q: 3. Is this easy to setup? I have never worked with a telescope before and am not much of a camera person.

A: In my opinion (as an amateur), it is not easy to set up. You have to first collimate it before you can see anything, and that requires taking the thing apart a little. We have someone from the museum teaching us how to use it or we likely wouldnt be able to figure it out ourselves. Our telescope tutor says it really is a great beginner telescope so if you can find someone who knows what they are doing then it shouldnt be too terrible.

Q: 4. What type of focuser does this unit have? Is it a bird Jones?

A: The scope is outfitted with a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser.

Q: 5. what kind of things can i see with this, without needed to buy any extras?

A: Bottom line is buy this set! The telescope, tripod, equatorial mount, software and rd flashlight is worth EVERY penny. To be honest, you'll have to buy additional eyepieces. The 4mm eyepiece is not useful with this telescope because of the aperture and focal length. I suggest buying a quality zoom eyepiece (one piece but includes five or six different magnification stops) and a shorty 2x Barlow. With these, you can see Jupiter and its striated atmosphere AND several of its moons (the number of visible moons depends on the time of year. I've seen Jupiter and four of its moons ibn the same field of view). You can see Mars and its varying shades of brownish red. You can see Saturn and its rings. With the 2x Barlow, you can see the space between the planet and its rings!Observing the moon with the eyepiece I've suggested will absolutely knock your socks off! In fact, observing the moon from half to full is so bright you may want to consider buying a moon filter. It's not necessary but you'll understand once you've marveled at the full moon! You may even be able to observe nebulae, galaxies and clusters. I've had my telescope, the same one you're considering, since early June and because of where I live and the time of year, I haven't been able to view any of those yet.The day my telescope arrived and using only the contents on the box, I spent hours looking at the moon. I lost track of time because I was mesmerized. At about 2am, my wife came outside and told me I had to quiet down (I was oohing and ahhing, pretty loudly I'm told!) I was so taken, I had several telescope parties over the summer, inviting every friend who expressed an interest. EVERY person that looked through the eyepiece voiced their amazement at what they were observing. The loudest oohs and ahs came from looking at Saturn and the moon. I must disclose that for the parties i was using my zoom eyepiece and the 2x shorty Barlow. What I'm saying is BUY IT! It's a fantastic telescope for beginners and intermediates.Enjoy!

Q: 6. Are there 1/4-20 holes in the dovetail so the scope can be put ton a photo tripod? What are the outside dimensions of the the Scope?

A: Yes, you can put it on a regular tripod and I have done it when I used it to look at the animals. The threads are compatible with the quick release plate. I haven't measured the dimensions so I can't answer your other question.

Q: 7. Can this scope be slewed manually across the sky without losing goto settings?

A: Yes you can! You need to do the aligning setup every time you turn on the computer!!! (which sucks but i think its understandable) Once you start to track an object you can do corrections in every direction which does not effect your settings. Also you can manually slew in every direction without losing your goto setups since they are stored in the computer and if you have aligned correctly.

Q: 8. Is it possible to fit an automatic star finder to this? 5 is a big enough lens to see the hard-to-find stuff. If my kids turn out to enjoy this, I'll probably want to add a tracker. Many thanks.

A: Hello, I'm afraid I can't answer your question, because I don't have an automatic star finder, but I think it has a support to it, In the manual says that you can put automatic things on it, but I'm not sure.

Q: 9. My powerseeker 127 eq does not come with a latitude lock. What can I do?

A: We are sorry to hear you were missing a latitude locking component. Please contact Celestron Technical Support, so a representative can assist you in getting a replacement part. Their email address is: mail@celestronsupport.com

Q: 10. What can i see with this?, my other telescope is a 40$ scope and i can barely focus on the moon with it. is this able to view stars easy with faint village sized community lights?

A: So it really depends on your sky and the clarity. This is a great scope for the price point. I would recommend not using this where there are street lights. The image will be fuzzy, and distorted.
