Covering a versatile wide-angle range, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is designed for Canon EF-S-mount APS-C DSLRs, and provides a 16-35.2mm equivalent focal length range to suit working in a wide array of shooting conditions. Benefitting the flexible zoom range is a sophisticated optical design, which includes one Super-UD element and three aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations, and a Super Spectra coating has been applied to limit flare and ghosting for improved contrast. Additionally, this lens sports a ring-type USM for quick and quiet autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override, and an internal focus design also quickens focusing speeds and maintains the overall lens length during operation.

Wide-angle zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides a 16-35.2mm equivalent focal length range.

One Super-Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.

Three aspherical elements limit distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing design, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Rounded six-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this 10-22mm lens compatible with the canon 70D?

A: Any Canon lens designed for SLR cameras will have one red dot (EF lenses) or a white square (EF-S lenses). These will correspond to respective markers on the camera's mounting ring. If your camera has both (like the 70D has), then it will work with either lens, including the EF-S 10-22mm lens above. The EF-S lenses are tailored for the crop sensor in the non-full-frame range of DSLR's Canon manufactures. The EF lenses are for the full frame sensors that equip the likes of Canon 5D (I, II, III) and 1D(S, X, etc) range of cameras. The EF lenses look different on a crop sensor camera: for example, a 50mm EF lens would look equivalent to an 80mm EF-S because of the crop factor the 70D has (1.6) compared to a full-frame camera. Note the lens is still an effective 50mm (that does not change).

Q: 2. Does this fit on 90 d

A: Yes this does work on the 90D

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with a Rebel T3? If not, can someone tell me which wide angle lens is? Thanks!

A: Yes, this lens is designed for Canon small frame (ASP-C) cameras and will fit on a Canon T3. Note that it will not fit on full frame camera like the Canon 6d or 5d Mark III, IV (in case you plan on upgrading in the near future).

Q: 4. I've been dabbling in night sky photography with the kit lens for my Canon (18-55), but am ready to upgrade. Is this a good piece of glass for that application?

A: I have this lens and tried it on the Milky Way. It's not really fast enough for this type of photography but is great for landscapes. Rokinon has a 14mm 2.8 lens that a friend is using. Much better for night work and less expensive. It is completely manual.

Q: 5. Is this len for canon 60D?

A: Yes, it does - the one person person who answered 'no' to this question is misinformed and misinforming you.

Q: 6. Is the Canon 10-22 compatible with the Metabones Speedbooster .71 Ultra?

A: No, if you're referring to the Metabones T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x Adapter for Canon EF Lens to BMPCC 4K Camera, as EF-S lenses require modification to fit or may remain incompatible even after modification.

Q: 7. I am a novice photographer and own a Canon Rebel t5i. I am going on a trip to Antarctica and want to get some good quality landscape shots. Would this lens be the right one, or would I get the 10-18? I am not bringing a tripod and currently use a Tamron 18-270.

A: Using the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens would be better since the autofocus is a bit faster and the focal length doesn't overlap with your current Tamron 18-270mm lens.

Q: 8. Why is the aperture 3.5-4.5 if it's actually 3.5-29?

A: Both Petter and Marcelo note that the numbers listed refer to the maximum aperture of the lens, but neither answers why the aperture is listed as 3.5-4.5. The reason is because the maximum aperture will vary depending on your zoom level. At one extreme of zoom, your maximum aperture will be 3.5, while at the other end the max aperture will decrease to 4.5. At intermediate zoom levels, the max aperture will vary between 3.5 and 4.5. The minimum aperture should always stay at f/29. This is a common finding in zoom lenses, particularly in the lower price range. To control the aperture yourself, you need to set the camera to aperture priority (or manual) mode.

Q: 9. Will this lens work on a Metabones Speedbooster .71 Ultra, for a BMPCC 4K?

A: No, if you're referring to the Metabones T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x Adapter for Canon EF Lens to BMPCC 4K Camera, as EF-S lenses require modification to fit or may remain incompatible even after modification.

Q: 10. would this work with a Canon 77D?

A: Yes this lens works with Canon EOS DSLRs with an APS-C sensor such as the Canon EOS 77D.

I am so happy with the 10-22, it's a great walk around lens when shooting landscapes and structures. The image quality is fantastic and distortion at 10mm is minimal when shooting level with the horizon (close ups and shooting upwards at buildings are more visible but not anywhere close to resembling fisheye). The autofocus is quick and super quiet. My own personal feeling is that this is a must-have lens if you can afford it. It is comparable to a Canon L-series. Problems Encountered: Lens Flare Without Hood. Items I Recommend: EW-83E Lens Hood

This lens is great for wide angle photographers. The lens is extremely sharp from 10mm to 22mm. At 10mm there is a little bit of inversion on the side of the photographs but that can be expected from almost any super wide angle lens. Once the lens is at 12mm the inversion disappears. Auto focus is fast and accurate. The lens is made of good quality but is not too heavy. This lens will not weigh you down weather you have it on the camera or in a bag. Overall, the make of this lens is ver good. This lens is just another top of the line from Canon which works great for a cropped frame sensor. If you have a cropped frame and are looking to shoot indoors, buildings, or landscapes at a super wide angle, then this lens is surely for you.

This lens is razor sharp at all focal lengths and aperturesand the shots you can get with the wide angle will blow youaway. It's worth every penny. The downside, however, is that the extremely short focallength results in an extremely large depth of field. I haveno problems with this artistically, but it's actually apractical issue. If you put any filters on the front of yourlens, you have to keep them pristine. Any dust or scratcheson your filter will show up if you shoot into a light sourceat f/5.6 and smaller. Also be sure to get a filter with ananti-reflective coating, as the area at the front of thelens around the front element can reflect off the filter andshow up in your picture. At f/16 and smaller you canactually see the circular ridges. If you're shootingdirectly into a light source you should probably just takethe filter off.Overall a great lens. I give Features 4/5 because it's notan f/2.8 like its full-frame cousin the 16-35.

I was considering either this lens or Tokina 12-24mm ($500), and I'm glad I got Canon instead ($690). It is light, well-made - although plastic body, not flimsy - and its image quality is superb! It focuses quickly and quietly. There is a bit of barrel distortion at 10mm end, however it's easily corrected via Photoshop w/+2.0 setting. I don't notice any distortion til 14mm or so.I didn't know whether I could use non-slim UV filter & polarizer - yes they work well, does not obstruct its FOV.I didn't realize that zoom and focus ring positions are reversed, from my 24-70L USM and 70-300 IS USM. I am guessing it's due to some engineering challenges - may take some time getting used to.IMO, the only down-side is that this is EF-S mount. When I upgrade to a higher-end EF camera body in the future, I'll have to keep my 30D to keep this lens. I hope Canon will develop a 10-22/24 lens for EF mount.Overall, an excellent wide-angle lens! This lens definitely brings with itself a differentperspective. The widest I have ever shot on my Digital RebelXT is at 18mm, so this brought a welcome change to myphotography. This lens is by no means a walk-around lens, asit will almost always include objects which you could dowithout in the picture. However, for wide-angle naturecaptures, it is unbeatable. Another plus is the minimum focusing distance of this lens. With enough light, the macro shots with this lens are beautiful. Expertise: Intermediate Amateur Problems Encountered: This lens is not as sharp as my 80 dollar Canon 50mm f1.8.Also, the skies are almost always overexposed or the groundunderexposed, which is why a filter is necessary. Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Canon 18-55mm Items I Recommend: Neutral Density or Polarizing Filter

This is by far the widest lens I have in my bag. For landscape shooting, it opens up a new horizon for me. Widest I had before was 24mm (crop = 39mm). Now I have 16 (crop). What a huge difference! Color is good and clarity is good as well. There is distortion if the camera is tilted away from the plane of capture, but I anticipated this. Focus is quick with the USM motor but it probably doesn't have that far to move, going from 10-16. For the crop camera, I this is all I'll ever need for my wide work. Highly recommended

This lens really makes my photography experiences more interesting. The options are endless when it comes to creating an eye catching shot, even of the most boring subjects. The lens feels very solid to the touch, it produces L-lens quality shots, and its focal range is perfect for many applications. I bought the lens for a future trip to Russia, where I'll need a nice wide angle lens, and so far I haven't found a single problem. Buy this lens! Problems Encountered: Only slight vignetting below f/4. Previous Equivalent Items Owned: Canon 18-55. Items I Recommend: Lens hood and UV filter.

I was surprised how straight the sides of the images are. Finally a lens that will do interiors justice. If you do weddings I's great in a limo / mini bus. I'll retire the Canon 16-35 f2.8. It's sharper on the sides and the slower f stop is not a problem.
