Covering a versatile wide-angle range, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is designed for Canon EF-S-mount APS-C DSLRs, and provides a 16-35.2mm equivalent focal length range to suit working in a wide array of shooting conditions. Benefitting the flexible zoom range is a sophisticated optical design, which includes one Super-UD element and three aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations, and a Super Spectra coating has been applied to limit flare and ghosting for improved contrast. Additionally, this lens sports a ring-type USM for quick and quiet autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override, and an internal focus design also quickens focusing speeds and maintains the overall lens length during operation.

Wide-angle zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides a 16-35.2mm equivalent focal length range.

One Super-Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.

Three aspherical elements limit distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing design, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Rounded six-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work on a Metabones Speedbooster .71 Ultra, for a BMPCC 4K?

A: No, if you're referring to the Metabones T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x Adapter for Canon EF Lens to BMPCC 4K Camera, as EF-S lenses require modification to fit or may remain incompatible even after modification.

Q: 2. I have a rebel t1i and would like a nice wide angle lens for landscape and for a trip to Europe. I'm debating whether I should get the 10-18mm or 10-22mm with no IS. The 10-18 is significantly cheaper which is a huge plus but I'm not necessarily set on that. Any suggestions or better recommendations?

A: I don't know this lens compares to the 10-18mm, but we have really enjoyed using the 10-22. We spend a lot of time outdoors, especially in the mountains, and use this lens a lot. Makes beautiful photos of mountain views, including the waterfalls!

Q: 3. Why is the aperture 3.5-4.5 if it's actually 3.5-29?

A: Both Petter and Marcelo note that the numbers listed refer to the maximum aperture of the lens, but neither answers why the aperture is listed as 3.5-4.5. The reason is because the maximum aperture will vary depending on your zoom level. At one extreme of zoom, your maximum aperture will be 3.5, while at the other end the max aperture will decrease to 4.5. At intermediate zoom levels, the max aperture will vary between 3.5 and 4.5. The minimum aperture should always stay at f/29. This is a common finding in zoom lenses, particularly in the lower price range. To control the aperture yourself, you need to set the camera to aperture priority (or manual) mode.

Q: 4. Gentlemen, I have a Canon D-500 and now I am looking for a wide angle lense for this camera for landscape photos.I was recomended to buy a Canon 10-22mm 3,5 - 4,5 lense , and I would like to know if this is suitable for my camara and how much would cost considering that it would have to be shipped to Madrid, Spain.Thank you

A: If you meant you own the Canon EOS 500D (called the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i in the USA), then yes, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Autofocus Lens would be an excellent option for use with landscape photography, architecture photography, and interior photography. The cost of shipping would depend on the method of shipment you select at the time you place your order. To find the cost of shipping and estimated arrival time for your order, add the item(s) you are interested in into your online shopping cart by clicking the blue Add To Cart button, then click View Cart. On the My Cart screen, toward the bottom of the screen you should see the price, and to the left of the price will be an option that says Calculate Shipping Charges. If you select SPAIN from the country drop-down menu, it will then give you the various shipping options we have to your shipping address, along with the pricing and the estimated time of delivery below the shipping options.

Q: 5. Is this the correct lens for the Canon Rebel?

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with Canon EOS Digital Rebel models, but is not compatible with the Rebel film camera models however.

Q: 6. would this work with a Canon 77D?

A: Yes this lens works with Canon EOS DSLRs with an APS-C sensor such as the Canon EOS 77D.

Q: 7. is this lens compatible with Canon 7D and 20D?

A: The Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens is fully compatible with both the 7D and 20D, yes.

Q: 8. Does this fit on 90 d

A: Yes this does work on the 90D

Q: 9. Is the specified angle of view, 107 30' - 63 30', for aps-c sensors or for full frame sensors? Does a correction factor need to be applied to this range for angle of view calculations on a aps-c camera?

A: The lens is from the series EF-S . These are lenses that ONLY fit the EOS cameras with an aps-c sensorso you need to apply a correction to the length, but the angle of view is correct (for an APS-C sensor)

Q: 10. Is this lens compatible w/the T5i?

A: Yes, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is compatible with the Canon EOS Rebel T5i.

I have had this lens about 3 weeks. Went out and shot some landscapes. Some bridges and Lighthouses. Took some of the shots and cropped them hard (on Purpose), to see how the image would take it. Still crystal clear and sharp. Very happy!

I bought this lens 11 years ago for a 20D. I took it to Yosemite and I could not have used a better lens. I took it back to Yosemite in 2016 with a 60D. The pictures were certainly clearer, but the lens was perfect for this environment. I know it's really a 16-35mm for the 60D, but I still use it for great wide angle shots.

I use this lens for shooting real estate photos and urban landscapes. It's a real gem. The clarity is fantastic, and there is no distortion even on the widest setting (10mm). I am also going to incorporate this lens into weddings for my next wedding shoot. Shooting a subject up close with a wide setting really exaggerates the space around the subject like the sky and the ground. It creates a very interesting photo. 3.5-4.5 aperture is fine since I shoot real estate photos with a flash, and most everything else is outdoors. There is no image stabilizer on this lens, but that has not caused me any problems. I don't use a tripod very often, so occasionally I will re-shoot a photo if I catch a blur upon reviewing the image via the on-camera display. This lens is definitely worth every penny. The price is great, too!

If you do not know how to use the 10-22 lens for astounding landscape captures then I hasten to say you are a picture taker, not a photographer. Count pixels all you want and in the end you'll end up with tack sharp award winning photos. I hear far to many people blaming the lens only because they did a poor job framing the shot or didn't know what camera settings to use. I am a little biased in that landscape photography is the better portion of what pays the bills and it hasn't taken long for this lens to pay for its self.
