Covering a versatile wide-angle range, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is designed for Canon EF-S-mount APS-C DSLRs, and provides a 16-35.2mm equivalent focal length range to suit working in a wide array of shooting conditions. Benefitting the flexible zoom range is a sophisticated optical design, which includes one Super-UD element and three aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations, and a Super Spectra coating has been applied to limit flare and ghosting for improved contrast. Additionally, this lens sports a ring-type USM for quick and quiet autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override, and an internal focus design also quickens focusing speeds and maintains the overall lens length during operation.

Wide-angle zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides a 16-35.2mm equivalent focal length range.

One Super-Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.

Three aspherical elements limit distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing design, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Rounded six-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this lens on my 7D version 1?

A: This is a fantastic lens to use with the 7D.

Q: 2. I am a novice photographer and own a Canon Rebel t5i. I am going on a trip to Antarctica and want to get some good quality landscape shots. Would this lens be the right one, or would I get the 10-18? I am not bringing a tripod and currently use a Tamron 18-270.

A: Using the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens would be better since the autofocus is a bit faster and the focal length doesn't overlap with your current Tamron 18-270mm lens.

Q: 3. is this lens compatible with Canon 7D and 20D?

A: The Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens is fully compatible with both the 7D and 20D, yes.

Q: 4. Why is the aperture 3.5-4.5 if it's actually 3.5-29?

A: Both Petter and Marcelo note that the numbers listed refer to the maximum aperture of the lens, but neither answers why the aperture is listed as 3.5-4.5. The reason is because the maximum aperture will vary depending on your zoom level. At one extreme of zoom, your maximum aperture will be 3.5, while at the other end the max aperture will decrease to 4.5. At intermediate zoom levels, the max aperture will vary between 3.5 and 4.5. The minimum aperture should always stay at f/29. This is a common finding in zoom lenses, particularly in the lower price range. To control the aperture yourself, you need to set the camera to aperture priority (or manual) mode.

Q: 5. Is this lens weather-resistant? Could I use it in the rain with a 7D mark II?

A: I wouldn't take this lens out in a heavy rain but I have used it under several different waterfalls where there was lots of spraying water in the surrounding air. Both the camera and lens tolerated this level of moisture without any ill affects.

Q: 6. Is the Canon 10-22 compatible with the Metabones Speedbooster .71 Ultra?

A: No, if you're referring to the Metabones T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x Adapter for Canon EF Lens to BMPCC 4K Camera, as EF-S lenses require modification to fit or may remain incompatible even after modification.

Q: 7. I've been dabbling in night sky photography with the kit lens for my Canon (18-55), but am ready to upgrade. Is this a good piece of glass for that application?

A: I have this lens and tried it on the Milky Way. It's not really fast enough for this type of photography but is great for landscapes. Rokinon has a 14mm 2.8 lens that a friend is using. Much better for night work and less expensive. It is completely manual.

Q: 8. Gentlemen, I have a Canon D-500 and now I am looking for a wide angle lense for this camera for landscape photos.I was recomended to buy a Canon 10-22mm 3,5 - 4,5 lense , and I would like to know if this is suitable for my camara and how much would cost considering that it would have to be shipped to Madrid, Spain.Thank you

A: If you meant you own the Canon EOS 500D (called the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i in the USA), then yes, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Autofocus Lens would be an excellent option for use with landscape photography, architecture photography, and interior photography. The cost of shipping would depend on the method of shipment you select at the time you place your order. To find the cost of shipping and estimated arrival time for your order, add the item(s) you are interested in into your online shopping cart by clicking the blue Add To Cart button, then click View Cart. On the My Cart screen, toward the bottom of the screen you should see the price, and to the left of the price will be an option that says Calculate Shipping Charges. If you select SPAIN from the country drop-down menu, it will then give you the various shipping options we have to your shipping address, along with the pricing and the estimated time of delivery below the shipping options.

Q: 9. I purchased a Canon 10-18 and it flairs horribly with overhead interior lights. Since I shoot architectural for real estate I can't deal with that. Does this 10-22 flair with overhead lights as well? Thanks.

A: You may experience flare, however, this can be corrected with the use of a lens hood.

Q: 10. Is the specified angle of view, 107 30' - 63 30', for aps-c sensors or for full frame sensors? Does a correction factor need to be applied to this range for angle of view calculations on a aps-c camera?

A: The lens is from the series EF-S . These are lenses that ONLY fit the EOS cameras with an aps-c sensorso you need to apply a correction to the length, but the angle of view is correct (for an APS-C sensor)

Sharp photos and gives great angle. I got low and took a shot of a large tractor and it gave me an image that no other lens could. Great for landscapes too.

I use it mostly for automotive, landscape, and cityscape photography. It's very sharp for a wideangle lens and the colors are amazing. Love how wide it is at 10mm. I almost never take it off my camera. The quality of it is great. Feels nice a durable. Only thing I wish it had a faster aperture of like a f/2.8 like the Tokina. Other than that a great lens!

I use this for portraits and I love it! I like being able to get really close to my subject and still include lots of background.

Fantastic Architectural lens, low distortion, very good IQ, good value. Without going all the way to full frame and thus requiring another $1000+ lens at a minimum to get shots like this... there is nothing like it.My clients are impressed as am I.Can be susceptible to a little CA in harsh lighting but most lenses are. Make sure you get slim KSM CPL filters from B+W otherwise you will get vignetting at 10mm.Most of the photos on my website are taken with this lens.

I bought this lens before heading to Costa Rica. It takes fantastic landscape shots as you'd expect from a 10 mm ultra wide. I was incredibly surprised at how fast the autofocus is and how smooth the focus ring moved. There is nothing more to expect from this lens. Up close, it produces the perfect wide-angle distortion that we all know and love. I have been trying to use it with the Moose polarized warming filter, but as with all ultra wides, it produces some over-polarization at some edges. I'd recommend spending the extra $$ to get the thinner polarized filters. Regardless, I've been able to take great shots with this lens and could not be happier. I used this lens with the Canon Rebel T2i.
