The Tiffen 127mm Warm Black Diffusion/FX 1/4 Filter diffuses strong light entering the lens and produces a glowing effect. While the resulting image appears softer and ethereal, there is little loss of clarity or detail. This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by spreading the light more evenly, a soft glow is created rather than the sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter. In addition to the diffusion provided, a warming effect is also integrated into the filter helping to further balance skin tones. This filter has a 1/4 density, providing a very subtle amount of softening.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Additional warmth provided adds more of a glowing effect and helps to further balance skin tones.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this scope work well for astrophotography? What else would I need to buy to make work with Sony E mount

A: You will need the Celestron SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter for All Refractor and Reflector Telescopes which Accept 1.25" Eyepieces - Requires Camera-Specific T-Mount Adapter BH #CETA1.25 • MFR #93625 to use in place of the eyepiece and the Vello T-Mount Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Adapter BH #VELANEXT • MFR #LA-NEX-T To mount on your camera body. Those (2) pieces will now screw together.

Q: 2. Is this easy to setup? I have never worked with a telescope before and am not much of a camera person.

A: In my opinion (as an amateur), it is not easy to set up. You have to first collimate it before you can see anything, and that requires taking the thing apart a little. We have someone from the museum teaching us how to use it or we likely wouldnt be able to figure it out ourselves. Our telescope tutor says it really is a great beginner telescope so if you can find someone who knows what they are doing then it shouldnt be too terrible.

Q: 3. Can this telescope be used with a DSLR for astrophotography?

A: Theoretically yes. You would need parts that don't come with the telescope, like some kind of lens adapter. Also a kit to motorize the mount, if you're doing any kind of long exposure. It does come with a manual that offers tips for that sort of thing.

Q: 4. Does a tripod come with this?

A: Yes. Tripod is part of the package.

Q: 5. Will the focal point when connected to my Sony E-mount full frame camera be 1000 mm?

A: Since you will be attaching the camera through the eyepiece port it will not change the focal point.

Q: 6. what kind of things can i see with this, without needed to buy any extras?

A: Bottom line is buy this set! The telescope, tripod, equatorial mount, software and rd flashlight is worth EVERY penny. To be honest, you'll have to buy additional eyepieces. The 4mm eyepiece is not useful with this telescope because of the aperture and focal length. I suggest buying a quality zoom eyepiece (one piece but includes five or six different magnification stops) and a shorty 2x Barlow. With these, you can see Jupiter and its striated atmosphere AND several of its moons (the number of visible moons depends on the time of year. I've seen Jupiter and four of its moons ibn the same field of view). You can see Mars and its varying shades of brownish red. You can see Saturn and its rings. With the 2x Barlow, you can see the space between the planet and its rings!Observing the moon with the eyepiece I've suggested will absolutely knock your socks off! In fact, observing the moon from half to full is so bright you may want to consider buying a moon filter. It's not necessary but you'll understand once you've marveled at the full moon! You may even be able to observe nebulae, galaxies and clusters. I've had my telescope, the same one you're considering, since early June and because of where I live and the time of year, I haven't been able to view any of those yet.The day my telescope arrived and using only the contents on the box, I spent hours looking at the moon. I lost track of time because I was mesmerized. At about 2am, my wife came outside and told me I had to quiet down (I was oohing and ahhing, pretty loudly I'm told!) I was so taken, I had several telescope parties over the summer, inviting every friend who expressed an interest. EVERY person that looked through the eyepiece voiced their amazement at what they were observing. The loudest oohs and ahs came from looking at Saturn and the moon. I must disclose that for the parties i was using my zoom eyepiece and the 2x shorty Barlow. What I'm saying is BUY IT! It's a fantastic telescope for beginners and intermediates.Enjoy!

Q: 7. How can I buy this?

A: Currently B&H is not accepting any7 preorders on the Celestron AstroMaster 114EQ 114mm f/8.8 Reflector Telescope BH #CEAM114EQ • MFR #31042

Q: 8. My powerseeker eq does not have a latitude lock what can i do?

A: I would recommend getting in touch with Celestron directly with this inquiry. CelestronTel: 310-328-9560 or 310-803-5955 Website http://www.celestron.com/

Q: 9. Is the telescope itself metal or is it cheap plastic?

A: it is metal. overall parts quality is good

Q: 10. Is it possible to fit an automatic star finder to this? 5 is a big enough lens to see the hard-to-find stuff. If my kids turn out to enjoy this, I'll probably want to add a tracker. Many thanks.

A: Hello, I'm afraid I can't answer your question, because I don't have an automatic star finder, but I think it has a support to it, In the manual says that you can put automatic things on it, but I'm not sure.
