The Chimera Large Daylight Plus is designed for use with large Fresnel lights. It is rated up to 12,000 Watts and fixture diameters from 9" to 21.5 inches. It may also be used with studio flash, but this is not economical in the long run since adapter rods would be required for the attachment of a strobe ring; this box has shorter rods.

The extra depth of the Daylight allows the fresnel beam to spread out and cover the front face more evenly. This extra depth, combined with a fabric that is more heat resistant, makes the box safe when used with a 12K light.

Use this box for the softest light possible. The "Plus" designation means the face of the box is removable. Chimera makes different strengths of diffusion material for front face applications. This softbox comes with a one-stop diffusion cloth, and additional 1/2 and 1/4 grid cloths. Substituting a half or quarter diffusion, or taking out the interior baffle will result in more contrast, slightly more light transmission, and less softening of the light.

Recessed face makes the soft source more directional, and enables addition of a honeycomb grid, soft fabric grid or louvers.

A: The difference is based on the diffusers that they include. The XS Video Pro Plus comes with a 1/2 and 1/4 diffusion panel while the Video Pro Plus 1 comes with a full stop diffusion panel. Otherwise, they have the same dimensions and silver interior.

A: These barndoors are useful in preventing glare that could bounce back to the camera as well as minimizing light spill. A grid focuses the entire beam down and the size of the beam would be dependent on the size of the grid (in degrees). For example, a 40 degree grid would yield a less focused beam versus a 20 degree.

The key to exceptionally soft and flattering light in portraiture is a large light source. This softbox is the right tool for the job. The most important feature for me is the shallow design - less than 24 inches deep. I've used smaller softboxes that were more cumbersome due to depth. Silver interior reflects light more efficiently than white which helps ensure an even spread cross the front and a boost to a moderately powered strobe (I suggest you use the secondary, interior baffle as well for even lighting). Compared this to a Larson 4x6 which was nearly twice the price and an inch deeper. Chimera is simply a better value. 5

Build quality is top notch with metal rods and not fiberglass of lesser brands. Light quality is outstanding as expected from Chimera light modifiers. Set up is quick with the Chimera quick release speed ring. While pricier than some other brands, I feel that it was worth it for what I'm sure will be many years of use. 5

Great light modifier as expected from Chimera Lighting. Make sure you have a speedring that fits. The ends of the rods are bigger than any other modifier I have (including Chimera) and wouldn't fit my Interfit, Impact, or Hensel rings. I had to order a Chimera speedring. 5

Very even lighting from top to bottom. Best of all the light is super soft and the box doesn't eat up a lot of room in your shooting area. Very light weight as well. I had no problem using the box on a boom. Very pleased with the quality of the materials and the design. The aluminum rods are a plus. 5

Used for still photography with Arri 300 tungsten. Kit comes with internal baffle to diffuse any effect of spotlight (though Arri can be set to flood to minimise the effect) and full, half and quarter stop filters. Made of very tough material as it is used with lights that get very hot. Great addition to my lighting kit. (Note you need matching Chimera speedring to suit your light) 5
