The AstroScope 9350BRAC-GL2-3PRO Night Vision Adapter from Electrophysics is designed for Canon's GL2 Camcorder. The AstroScope delivers the ability to produce high resolution full-frame images under adverse lighting conditions. The rugged and compact design makes it ideal for demanding applications. Fitted with a high-performance 3rd generation intensifier, the AstroScope significantly enhances your camera's low-light capabilities.

Your high definition camera can now take on a more valuable role in all your security concerns. The AstroScope's ability to capture images in low light that provide facial recognition and vehicle registration identification ensures your ability to execute wide area surveillance and long range detection. You can secure any perimeter, shut down border crossings, and render any 'line in the sand' impenetrable.

To use the AstroScope, a C-Mount lens not included must be fitted to the front of the CIU.

While 2nd generation night vision works well in most applications, 3rd generation night vision will out perform it in all situations. These improvements substantially increase the recognition and detection range of the system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with Voigtlander Ultron 35mm f1.7? Or other third party lenses for that matter? How close will this adapter focus with 35mm Ultron if it compatible?

A: Yes, it will work with any M mount lens, but I think it works best with longer lens such as 50 mm and more. Leica makes a 90 mm macro lens that goes with it.

Q: 2. could i use this with one of the older M models (M Monochrom)? i understand the macro focusing would be pretty hard without LiveView, but it could be possible, right?

A: I use this with Live View on several Sonys which because of their excellent peaking focus feature they can work with the adaptor. I think without live view it will be nearly impossible or at least very hit and miss to get tack sharp focus with the adaptor. Be sure in itself the adaptor is terrific piece of kit.

Q: 3. Can I use this Macro Adapter with a 50 mm f 2.0 lens ? Also do the rangefinder focusing function still work properly when using the adapter ?

A: Yes it will work with the 50mm lens in live view.

Q: 4. Does it reduce the farther end of the focus range? Will the lens still be able to focus to infinity with this adapter on?

A: When using a Macro adapter, such as the Leica Macro-Adapter-M, you will no longer be able to focus to infinity, as the adapter will move the lens further away from the sensor, allowing you to focus closer to objects, but losing the ability to focus on further away objects.

Q: 5. I mounted my m10 with the 90mm APO-Summicron f2 and the macro-adaptor-m on a tripod. I set the aperture to f5.6 and the iso to 100 and the exposure to 1/2 second and took a great image. When I loaded the image into Lightroom and lookedat the info, it showed f22. Does this mean the the effective f number rises dramatically with the use of the adaptor? Does this introduce and optical problems?

A: No, the effective f-number does not rise dramatically with the use of the Leica Macro-Adapter-M. There is no electronic communication between the Leica Macro-Adapter-M and the M-mount camera, and as such, no EXIF data such as aperture setting or focus distance is transmitted between the lens, lens mount, and camera. As such, either no information is listed or a minimum number (such as f/22) would be listed. That being said, this has no effect to the image quality. As there are no optics inside the lens adapter, it does not introduce any optical problems.

Q: 6. I have Leica M Type 240 Camera and Leica 90mm f2 M lens. If I purchase Macro-Adapter-M by Leica, could I get Macro capability with my lens? What would be the reproduction ratio 1:1 or 1:2? If the response is 1:2 as the product spec specifies how do I achieve Macro reproduction ratio of 1:1?Regards,simik7@comcast.net

A: The Leica Macro-Adapter-M when used on lenses with focal lengths of at least 50mm achieve a maximum reproduction ratio up to 1:2 for close-up shooting. Technically speaking, 1:1 is reached when a lenses optical center is moved twice its focal length from the focal plane (or sensor plane). Your 90mm lens would have to be moved far enough so its optical center was 180mms from your cameras focal plane (or sensor plane). Using a lens with a shorter (wider angle) focal length would increase your reproduction ratio with the M adapter. I am not aware of longer Extension tubes made for the Leica M mount nor a bellows set up that will fit.

Q: 7. I'd like to use this adapter with a 35mm Summicron-m f2. At its minimum 18 mm extension, what (approximately) would the lens to subject distance be?

A: Good question. It is difficult to calculate this, I will try to do a measurement for you if I get time. But as a very rough guess I'd estimate you would be halving the 700mm to around 350mm minimum focus distance and probably achieve about a 1/10 reproduction ratio.I have the combo and will try to do a measure

Q: 8. Do you generally keep the adapter on the camera for all of your work, or do you only use it for close up work? In other words, does this change or disrupt your workflow, image quality etc. to use this adapter for closeup and non-closeup work? Thanks

A: You will only be able to do macro photos with this adapter in place. You should not keep the macro adapter on the camera except for macro photography.

Q: 9. Is it possible to scan negatives with this in combination with 50 Summilux?

A: This Macro M adapter would help you get closer and for the image to be larger - you will also need a rear light to photograph negatives with any lens. But it will turn your 50mm M mount lens into a macro lens for an M mount Leica camera, yes.

Q: 10. Is this adapter weathersealed?

A: It is not weather sealed. I adapt Summilux-M lenses with Leica SL. However, both the lenses and the camera body are weather sealed.

I have been filming faithfully with this camera for 3 yearsnow and not only has it done amazingly well, it is the bestcamera for your buck. This camera is great for any level offilm making and/or event videography. The colors are crispand vivid, and the 20x zoom is a MUST HAVE!! I've shotevents with other canon cameras such as the XL1s, and theXL2, and as far as my eyes can see, the GL2 puts out themost colorful and well balanced image. To get the bestresults from this camera, you must use the manual mode.Though the auto focus/exposure is still great, the best lookyou will get is when you have full control of white balance, shutter speed, and aperture. This camera is perfect forschool video classes, multicamera event shooting, and anypromotional shooting that doesn't require HD or 24p or 24f.This is an incredible camera and widely used in eventvideography. Hope this has helped, and I hope you canexperience the greatness of this camera as I have.HDV and HD don't matter yet...wait until 2009 when they getit right, buy this camera now and save some money. Problems Encountered: The only issue is that the on camera audio is mediocre. Itis better than consumer camera's but it's not professionalquality. I'd recommend buying the MA300 microphone adapteror the Beachtech microphone adapter in order to plug in anexternal mic (which is what most people do anyways, no onebut amateurs uses on camera mics). Also, this camera ispretty decent-good in low-light, but amazing with light!! Previous Equivalent Items Owned: Canon XL1s, GL1 Items I Recommend: Uv filter, Circular polarizer, wide angle lens, NTG2 rode microphone, MA300 Microphone Adapter, Bogen 501HD fluid head tripod, carrying case..., white ballance card, lithium-ion 6hr battery(ies)

Taken all around, this camera is a great value. The image quality surpasses expectations. It is feature rich if you dig through the menus and it delivers pro results on less than a full pro budget. Audio input is lacking. You'll want to invest in some third party gear for capturing sound. I recommend the Beachtek DXA-4P.

Wow! what a quality product. I am currently using my GL2 for outdoor video. And could not be more satisfied with my choice. Easy to carry, lightweight, superb low light capability, stunning clarity, high quality audio all in one compact package. And thanks B&H for competative pricing, ...

I bought this camcorder for my small video production company about 3 or 4 years ago. First off, the quality is top notch. I find a few years later that there are much more extras available for this workhorse which makes it even more competitive in this industry.

WE have four of these camcorders. They work well for meetings, outdoor activities, low lighting (night time lighted boat parades) and are versatile. We use a FOCUS hard drive with ours.

I managed to save over the summer and bought one. Very nice and a very good price here at b&h. I love the picture quality and the manual focus. That seems to be hard to find on a camera in this price range. and I even like the picture quality better on this than any other 3 ccd cameras I've worked with. What I've been doing with it: Shooting a TV show for a campus station, shorts, various projects for a FinalCut class, music videos, and some theater productions (used in grant writing for an after school program). And soon it will be going to New Zealand with me when I go there to study film abroad.Love the camera! It's my baby! Thanks B&H for making it affordable for even the poor college student! Expertise: Student Filmmaker Problems Encountered: One problem: my mic jack went bad, and now always thinks that there is a mic plugged in. Which is alright when i have one plugged in, but when i need to shoot on the run, it causes some problems. It comes with a 1 year warranty though, and I've fixed problems like this on sound systems before. So, I'm sure it should be a quick fix.People keep saying that they are having problems with their tape decks, but so far *knock on wood* i haven't. I've found it opens a bit slow, but just as long as I'm patient with it, everything is fine. Previous Equivalent Item Owned: haha... a JVC GR-D250u (basically, box with a hole through it) Items I Recommend: a good mic, and some head phones
