Tiffen 105mm Coarse Thread Black Diffusion/fx 3 Filter

The Tiffen 105mm Coarse Thread Black Diffusion/FX 3 Filter diffuses strong light entering the lens and produces a glowing effect. While the resulting image appears softer and ethereal, there is little loss of clarity or detail. This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by spreading the light more evenly, a soft glow is created rather than the sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter. This filter has a 3 density, providing a moderate amount of softening.
Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Would this lens fit on a Panasonic GH5 if I were to get an adapter for it? If so what kind of adapter would I need for it to fit on the GH5?
A: I am not aware of any Sony lens compatible adapter for a Panasonic GH5 but I use a Metabones adapter to attach my Canon lenses to my Sony a6600.
Q: 2. I have the Sony 18-200 Power Zoom and I notice a good deal of resistance when zooming manually (because of the servo motor, I believe). Does this lens have the same sort of resistance when zooming manually, or does it feel normal?
A: I wouldn't say there's resistance but it doesn't feel like a typical manual zoom lens. The ring is easy to rotate but there seems to be a slight delay in response. I find it completely usable but it's not as a natural feeling as a manual zoom lens.
Q: 3. I have a Sony a6000 with the kit lenses 16-50 and 55-210. Is there a better lens than the 16-50? What about the 18-105, would that lens have better contrast and color?
A: I use it on a Nex7 and in my opinion it is a better lens for sharpness, contrast and color; but you have to be using software that allows for lens correction as this lens has some wicked distortion issues.
Q: 4. Does this lens have an effective focal length of 28-168mm on AP{S format cameras like the new Canon R10?
A: The Canon R10 has a 1.6x crop factor so 24*1.6 = 38.4 and 105*1.6 = 168 so Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens equivalent focal length on the Canon R10 will be 38.4 - 168mm.
Q: 5. will this work on a 7A?
A: If you are referring to the Sony A7, while the lens will fit on the camera this is an APS-C only lens. It will not cover the full frame of the Sony A7. You would have to shoot in an APS-C mode with the camera to use this lens.
Q: 6. Is it normal for there to be a little play with the lens barrel of the RF 24-105 F4 L when it is fully extended to 105mm? I have two other RF zooms-the 70-200 F4 and the 100-500-which have absolutely no play at all when extended. Thanks.
A: This is common with this specific lens. It is not an issue, this should still work fine.
Q: 7. I'd like to recreate a cinema zoom. Is this lens parfocal or varifocal? And if so will the subject remain in focus while zooming without the use of autofocus? I'm not looking to use autofocus during a zoom.
A: It is parfocal - which does make it nicer on that level than the Sony e-mount kit lenses that shipped with the FS100/700's. So - I thought this lens was going to be a really nice addition to our video camera packages (motorized zoom, parfocal). But..... It's designed for still photography and doesn't translate perfectly to video production. I can't quite put my finger on it - but the image is softer, detail and color seem off and it does aberrate pretty badly at the widest settings (which is very, very noticeable on pans and tilts). So when you say cinema zoom - beware. I don't think you're going to get that level of image quality out of it. But, it's a $600 lens - so you're getting what you pay for. I have no regrets on buying it - but ours has been relegated to our live event kit as a wide lens that needs some motorized zooms.
Q: 8. Does it lose light on the sensor when you zoom in? Like the EF 24-105mm f/4.0L when you zoom in?
A: The Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens is non variable aperture lens. It does not reduce lite as you zoom.
Q: 9. I'm looking for an action video lens. I have two decent manual focus, but I need something that I can trust the a6500's auto focus to handle. Will this lens suffice? Or should I up the price and go to the 1000$18-200?
A: This lens is perfect for almost any application. I have a youtube channel and I use it exclusivly with my a6300. The range is perfect for a wide range of shots. Remember its an f4, so for darker scenes, up the ISO, or, lower the shutter speed to about 70/80. The AUTOFOCUS IS BEAST!!!!. Just make sure you turn it off for interviews, as you don't want it to hunt or look for other things to focus on. This effect is called Breathing where it looks like the lens is hunting in and out.
Q: 10. does this lens have auto zoom?
A: No, the zoom is manually operated.
