The Countryman EMW Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone is designed to reproduce vocals, musical instruments, and ambient audio sources with pristine detail and minimal handling noise. The capsule is highly resistant to moisture, making it a suitable solution for outdoor use, placement against skin, etc.

Clear audio reproduction with low rubbing and handling noise is a result of the EMW's omnidirectional polar pattern. The shelved frequency response features a smooth +6 dB boost between 2 and 15 kHz. This is the standard response for lavaliers worn on the outside of clothing (lapels, jackets, etc).

A wide variety of colors and connectors are available for use with various wireless transmitters. This version is white and features a 6-pin LEMO connector for use with Audio Limited wireless transmitters.

The EMW is available in three frequency response types and this version features a shelved frequency response that compensates for reflections lost when mounted on the outside of clothing and fabric. The shelved response is standard for lavalier microphones worn on lapels, jackets, etc.

The square EMW lavalier is available in a variety of colors that virtually render the entire microphone invisible against the skin, allowing you to select the version that is best suited for your application.

The attached cable is made of durable, break-resistant Kevlar for rigorous use without shorts or wear.

The EMW is credited for providing pristine audio with minimal handling and rubbing noise, due to its omnidirectional polar pattern.

This square, moisture-resistant capsule is ideal for use in humid conditions, on skin, outdoors, etc.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the Zoom SSH-6 completely compatible to the F1, i.e. can you use and adjust the mid-stereo record function, and if so: how do you operate it?

A: Yes. This mic is completely compatible with the Zoom F1. Plug and play.

Q: 2. Does this record a backup file? In similar ways to the Tascam DR-10L does?

A: No, the Zoom F1 does not offer a setting to record a backup file, however, the Zoom H5 and H6 models both provide this feature.

Q: 3. Can you use the lav mic and capsule mic at the same time?

A: Unfortunately you cannot with the F 1. Once you plug in the lav it cuts the feed from the internal mic's.

Q: 4. It says it can accept Line-In, does that mean it can record audio from a soundboard or will this fry the pre-amps?

A: Yes you can tap into a sound board or mixer, just make sure when you hook up, your input is set low then tweak it from there

Q: 5. Is it possible to monitor audio with the headphone jack while using the lavalier microphone in an interview setup, where the subject is a few feet away from you? Or would the mic cord not be long enough?

A: The mic cord is about 5 feet long, so it seems possible but awkward. For greater flexibility in setting-up for various camera angles, I would attach the Zoom F1 Recorder to the interviewees waist by belt, etc., and use a 15-20 foot extension cord with 1/8th-inch male and female connectors on ends for extending the cord from your headphones for connecting to the headphone jack.

Q: 6. I'm an amateur trying to get into some documentary filming, and I'm deciding between shelling out the money for the Zoom F1 (both the lavalier and shotgun) or just getting the Zoom H1 and mounting it on my G85 to function like a shotgun mic (and purchasing a lavalier separately). Does anyone have any thoughts on this, especially with regards to weight added to the camera/convenience and quality? The H1 is definitely cheaper and I think it might weigh less, but the F1 seems great too.

A: As the saying goes, the Force is strong in you. Your instincts about both systems is correct. I own both systems. In general, I try to avoid fixing anything to the camera. The protocol for docs (I have directed over a hundred) and sound systems is to run concurrent mics including camera audio. But your main audio rig should be separate from your camera system for many reasons. I bought the F1 mostly for back up since we employ a sound mixer to record tracks. I take the unit on my flight home to review the content. But, it has done well enough that we have used it for pick up interviews or supporting interviews. The lav provided is good. I ended up buying Sony lavs with separate battery (double A) power. You will want to ride any unit with a good pair of headphones. And just remember to hit the record and roll on sound after checking levels. It would be scary if there is no sound rolling.

Q: 7. When using the MSH-6 Mid-Side capsule is it possible to record the mid and side mics separately?

A: With the Zoom F1 recorder, you would not be able to use the MSH-6 Mid-Side Capsule to record the mid and side mics separately because it has a mono capsule. The mics that do work with the F1 and allow mid and side separation are the XYH-5 (B&H # ZOXYH5), XH6 (B&H# ZOZXYH6), and SSH-6 (B&H# ZOZSSH6).

Q: 8. Is there a 1/4-20 thread mount on the back?

A: The unit itself does not sport a 1/4-20 thread mount. However the dedicated shock-mount for the F1 does.

Q: 9. Can I control the 2 channel audio tracks separately so I can put a tentacle sync on one channel and lapel mic on the other ??

A: I believe so but the screen only shows one channel not both

Q: 10. Can Zoom F1 record both the sound channel come from mic capsules and Line in at the same time?

A: Mine does
