The EMW is credited with providing pristine audio with minimal handling and rubbing noise, due to its omnidirectional polar pattern.
This square, moisture-resistant capsule is ideal for use in humid conditions, on skin, outdoors, etc.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. May I buy the LMF lav mic solely for spare?
A: I tried it with my Countryman B6 and was disappointed even at full gain on the recorder the volume was barely -12 to -6 db. My sennheiser ME 2-II Mic seems to do a little better on efficiency.
Q: 2. I'm an amateur trying to get into some documentary filming, and I'm deciding between shelling out the money for the Zoom F1 (both the lavalier and shotgun) or just getting the Zoom H1 and mounting it on my G85 to function like a shotgun mic (and purchasing a lavalier separately). Does anyone have any thoughts on this, especially with regards to weight added to the camera/convenience and quality? The H1 is definitely cheaper and I think it might weigh less, but the F1 seems great too.
A: As the saying goes, the Force is strong in you. Your instincts about both systems is correct. I own both systems. In general, I try to avoid fixing anything to the camera. The protocol for docs (I have directed over a hundred) and sound systems is to run concurrent mics including camera audio. But your main audio rig should be separate from your camera system for many reasons. I bought the F1 mostly for back up since we employ a sound mixer to record tracks. I take the unit on my flight home to review the content. But, it has done well enough that we have used it for pick up interviews or supporting interviews. The lav provided is good. I ended up buying Sony lavs with separate battery (double A) power. You will want to ride any unit with a good pair of headphones. And just remember to hit the record and roll on sound after checking levels. It would be scary if there is no sound rolling.
Q: 3. Does it have a headphone jack?
A: Yes it does, although it puts out some hiss.
Q: 4. Does the Zoom H1 with the shotgun mic have a belt clip or does that only come with the lav mic kit?
A: Only the LAV
Q: 5. I own some Zoom Capsules, can I purchase the SMF-1 Shockmount and SMC-1 Stereo Mini Cable for Camera separately?
A: I contacted zoom about purchasing peripherals separately. Response: Unfortunately we do not currently have any information on which accessories will be available separately. We do not currently have any accessories available for purchase separate from the F1-SP and F1-LP packages. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Q: 6. Can the Zoom F1 USB sound output be used at the same time with internal recording?
A: This recorder may be used as a USB interface while recording to internal memory simultaneously.
Q: 7. Can you connect usual 1/8 external microphone jack without screw lock into zoom F1?
A: Yes. The screw lock in the picture is just a feature of the included lav.
Q: 8. Are the belt loop arms on the back removable? Device seems bulky and it looks like those arms just add to the bulkiness.
A: No, the belt loop arms are not removable.
Q: 9. I'm happy with this device but I do need a deadcat. Can anyone recommend a snug deadcat for this Zoom F1 shotgun?
A: Yes, the Rycote S12L is designed to work with the F1. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/267846-REG/Rycote_033033_12cm_Large_Hole_Softie.html
Q: 10. Is the Zoom SSH-6 completely compatible to the F1, i.e. can you use and adjust the mid-stereo record function, and if so: how do you operate it?
A: Yes. This mic is completely compatible with the Zoom F1. Plug and play.
