Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. hi is this the new rode video mic pro powered by 2A battery?

A: No. 9V.

Q: 2. Does this work well with GoPro cameras ?

A: you have to get the GoPro mic input adapter, and have a cold shoe or other place to mount it,. boom pole, etc , but, functions as it should and sounds great. I haven't done extensive testing with it, but the auto power on function seems to work from a regular power up from the GoPro, and not with the quick capture, one button record method... I haven't looked into wether there is a setting that can be changed to remedy that as I use a separate external recorder with the mic on a boom pole, and the quick record button I rarely use. Casey

Q: 3. Can the hot shoe be removed and what thread is used for attachment?

A: It's a cold shoe and it cannot be removed. The thread inside is a standard 3/8".

Q: 4. Would this work for recording dialogue between two people in a quiet room from about 10 ft away? And is this compatible with Nikon3200?

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is compatible with the D3200 and similar cameras that feature an 1/8 mic input jack. Average range for pickup would be 2-5 feet. For capturing audio at a distance of 10 feet clearly would require a significantly longer microphone and not an optimal recording scenario. It would be recommended to use a mic off camera or lavalier mics.

Q: 5. Does this mic pick up the image stabilization noise of the Canon 24-105? And if so, is it very noticeable and is there some type of on-camera bracket that isolates the mic from that sound? Im looking for an inexpensive on-camera solution for home movies and getting sound bites from family.

A: I have the Canon 70D, and I purchased the Rode VideoMic Pro just for that reason! It does not pick up any noise from image stabilization on my Canon lenses. The Rycote shockmount does a perfect job at eliminating unwanted noises.

Q: 6. Will this mic works to be plugged straight to the 3,5 jack port of the Atomos ninja flame monitor to record audio ? Do you have any recommendations ? Thanks for your answer !

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is compatible with the Atomos Ninja Flame. The Ninja Flame features a 3.5mm input jack that accepts mic and line level signals. The Rode mic is self powered via battery and is a great choice for a quality and compact mic for your video recorder/camera.

Q: 7. HI,is it compatible with the nikon D7000 & DJI osmo+ ?

A: Hello, I can only speak using the mic on my Nikon D750 but I've seen Youtube videos before I made my purchase where the Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro works with the D7000 and DJI osmo. There are several clips where people show and talk about it. I video a lot of local bands and even though the built in stereo mic on my Nikon D750 works wonderful, the high frequency cymbal crashes would occasionally distort the clarity and over modulate. The Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro has completely taken care of that problem for me. Plus for my application, it works better than a shotgun mic which is very directional. I also registered my Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro with Rode, the day I received it and got their 10 year warranty. Based on my needs, I would recommend this mic. Best of luck!

Q: 8. Does this work with the full Tilta cage on a BMPCC6K Pro?

A: The Tilta EVF Extension Cable for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, 6K G2 & Cinema Camera 6K can be used directly or with accessories allowing it to be placed on the Tilta full cage for BMPCC6k Pro.

Q: 9. How do you install the video mic pro on a boom pole?

A: The hot shoe of the microphone comes with a native screw thread for the boom pole. Assembly is very easy, though I recommend having tape on hand to tape the cord of the mic to the pole so that the cord doesn't dangle into any footage.

Q: 10. What is the ideal distance from the video subject for recording audio for this microphone when attached on a Sony A6300?

A: For most all shotgun mics, the ideal maximum distance to be away from the subject is 3'. Anything beyond that, and you'll notice a reduction in quality of pickup, and more ambient noise. If you need to be farther from a subject, then we'd recommend putting the mic on a boompole and placing it over the head of the talent. Here's a suggestion B&H # ROBP.
