Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with my Sachtler Ace quick release plate?

A: It will not.

Q: 2. Hi guys I plan to start enter into videography and need input - will this head work with a MT055CXPRO4? And what mount will I need for my Canon 80d?

A: I have the Manfrotto 290xtra that is compatible with this head, and It looks like the one you want has the same head connector. So, I would say yes to that. As far as the DSLR connection, you should be able to connect the camera right up to the head plate.

Q: 3. Is this head suitable for monopod with feet like ifootage cobra or manfrotto mvmxpro? The head with mvmxpro500 does not pan fromhead

A: Yes, the Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Video Head with Flat Base is compatible with an iFootage monopod like the iFootage Cobra 3 Aluminum Monopod with Mini Tripod Base and the Manfrotto MVMXPROA4US Aluminum XPRO Video Monopod+. The Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Video Head with Flat Base offers panning.

Q: 4. I'm trying to decide between this head, and the Manfrotto 502HD Pro Video Head for use with a DSLR and a variety of lenses. The heaviest lens I have is around 5 lbs., so with the DSLR, it would still be under the 11 pound capacity. Any input? Thanks.

A: In a video head, look for smoothness, weight capacity, dual locks, adjustable drag and counter balance. This one has all but the last two which are not adjustable. For the price, this is a fine head for most consumer video situations. The next step up would be an example like the Benro S7 Video Head B&H # BEVHS7. It has a bigger capacity, 15 lbs, and adjustable tilt drag and counterbalance.

Q: 5. I have an old Bogen 3021 tripod. Wanting a better head for it. Will this fit and be a good choice? I do lots of video and still phots and need better ability to pan and smoothly move the camera

A: Pans and tilts pretty smoothly for the low cost. Pan is a little tight even when you back off the lock screw. Tilt drag can be adjusted a bit better than pan.

Q: 6. Can anyone give me the measurement/diameter of the bottom of the base (that base that attaches to the tripod)?

A: As per manufacturer specs: Long edge - 10.4cm/4.09 inches; Short edge - 8cm/3.14 inches

Q: 7. Is a Canon MK3 with a 100-400 zoom too heavy for this head?

A: I have used it with my 70-200 5D3 without issue. I would suggest ensuring you use the lens mounting point for the plate, though. This is a rugged head, much more robust than you might think.

Q: 8. What is the leveling range of the Leveling Column Kit?

A: It is in the range of approximately 30°.

Q: 9. How much is the total weight, tripod with head?

A: The Manfrotto kit comes with two parts. The Manfrotto 500 head weight is 2 pounds. And the legs are 4.3 lb. The total weight of both head and legs would be 6.3 pounds.

Q: 10. I have this head (flat) and am looking for legs that it can fit with. I'm primarily looking for the tallest possible legs with a fluid side-to-side panning capability. Anyone have advice?

A: Dont know, sorry.

This version of the head is the one that allows the plate to be inserted from the side, without having to slide it in and out from the back. Makes going hand-held much quicker.

So much better than a ball head! It pans, and angles. Super smooth, and is a perfect fit to my new favorite tripod setup.

I bought this not for video, but rather when shooting wildlife photos. I use this in place of a gimbel head and it works beautifully. I do use it with a RRS leveler to make sure the head is level.

Manfrotto did an excellent job of building this fluid head. It works great. I used in combination with Kirk's quick release bridge system.

I got this idea from Hudson Henry videos, to use this head and to modify it with the Kirk Enterprises bridge kit. So far, I'm happy. I have the RRS BH-55? great ballhead, but the endless slip and movement when you finally have your shot is just a PITA. There is no drag control. I'm not sure that's a problem. I think I can pan smoothly enough. Mostly this will be for still photos, and when you lock the tilt there's no shift in your framing. Of course you have to level it, so, per HH I got the leveling head. Levelling is not easier or harder with the leveler compared to a ball head. But once level, this head is so much easier and faster to acquire my target. I completely dislike the torx screws. Kirk bridge kit comes with a torx wrench. But I wish it would come with regular hex bolts. Ridiculous and not appreciated that Manfrotto insists on odd fittings. I took the handle off.

Good price for a great fluid head. I do recommend swapping the top attachment plate with the Kirk Quick Release Bridge System. That will give you a quick release and the option of attaching things parallel or perpendicular. The Kirk system costs almost as much as the fluid head, but you end up with a much better setup.

It is a good medium size head. Great for a DSLR.
